I’ve listened on and off but missed the story on They Live. Your anti American is showing. America is the nation that allows for great movies to discuss topics. You turned me off for good. Sad for you if you think like this.
Light, frothy, superficial by design. Often that makes for an entertaining background babble for yard work, and then other times…like the They Live (1988) episode, which throws in references to David Icke and Marx (actually no outside to ideology is more Louis Althusser), but blithely ignores the obvious Trump, Epstein and QAnon context which has so reframed the pernicious role of conspiracy theory in our 2025 world. Diplomatic avoidance no doubt, but maybe they should just stick to “funner” top... more
I used to listen to this podcast religiously but in recent episodes they have highlighted men (Brad Pitt, Sacha Baron Cohen, etc) who are well known for the harm they have caused (i.e. physical abuse, harassment, racism) and they just don’t address it. If anything, they celebrate these men and play dumb or just ignore the history of abuses. You can have a movie podcast that celebrates movies and still holds abusers responsible for their actions. But by not doing that, I am left doubting the inte... more
I enjoy listening to their podcast. They are informative, respectful, and have a great sense of humor. The only negative aspect is the ads. It will interrupt in the middle of their thought, and it is so jarring that it takes away from the pleasurable experience I was enjoying. I purposely won’t listen to them when I am trying to relax. The ads made me jump in fear because they were so loud and out of place. One solution is to put the ads at the beginning of the podcast.
I am an avid fan of HDTGM. I sing the remix theme song. Great show.
Now, I am sure since Paul is involved that Unspooled is a terrific podcast. Amy’s voice is, to put it kindly, bothersome. I try and try to listen, but the warbling gets under my skin almost immediately.
I love reading Stephen King; almost no one can stand listening to him speak.
