  • Tik Tok discussion

This sounds like ultra right wing conspiracy theory. The arguments may or may not be valid, but you did not explain why the Chinese government is worse than Musk or Zuckerberg. Also, Tik Tok has done an amazing job keeping people informed about Gaza whereas American platforms have been removing important information.

I’m very disappointed with MIGS and it has lost a lot of credibility in my eyes because of this episode.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Beneath the Ice: The Future of Arctic Connectivity
Q: Why is broad cooperation across governments, industry, northern communities, and indigenous groups essential for protecting Arctic infrastructure?
Because subsea cables are privately owned and endpoints in remote communities, a concerted cross-sector approach is needed to share data, ensure local awareness, mobilize repair capabilities, and align political, technical, and community resources for effective protection and continuity of service.
Beneath the Ice: The Future of Arctic Connectivity
Q: What resilience measures look like in practice when designing subsea cable networks in contested regions?
Resilience means long-term planning (20-year cable lifespans), deploying protective installation methods, ensuring international cooperation, and building rapid repair and response capabilities including specialized icebreaking and private-sector coordination.
Beneath the Ice: The Future of Arctic Connectivity
Q: How do gray zone tactics and hybrid threats complicate the protection of critical subsea infrastructure in the Arctic?
Gray zone tactics exploit ambiguity and jurisdictional complexity, making it challenging to determine responsibility for cable damage, which, combined with international waters and busy maritime lanes, requires robust situational awareness and layered defense.
Beneath the Ice: The Future of Arctic Connectivity
Q: Let's start with the Far North Subsea Cable project. What role should Canada play in shaping the future of global subsea connectivity?
Canada has a unique position as a connective tissue between Atlantic and Pacific routes and should be forward-leaning to participate in and guide multinational infrastructure efforts, balancing Arctic domestic needs with international connectivity goals.
Critical Infrastructure and the Indo-Pacific: Canada, Japan, and the New Security Nexus
Q: Why are we seeing a change in mindsets around undersea cables, and what does that imply for policy responses?
Because the risks are no longer purely economic; vulnerabilities in connectivity can have strategic and security consequences. This implies a move toward integrated, security‑aware planning that pairs technical readiness with diplomatic and regulatory measures, including public-private collaboration and robust incident attribution.
