The Real Reason I created the 6 Week Transformer Templates
Q: What would you say to a gym owner who is on the cusp of diving into more HiRox courses or organizing events?
The guest encourages focusing on building a solid base coaching framework first, then layering new trends like HiRox or CrossFit when there is demand and a fit for your clients, so that you can offer diverse options without losing core quality.
Your feet, box squats and the Beatles
Q: Is it bad to lose contact with the ground during a box squat?
Losing contact or rolling the foot can indicate imbalance or weakness elsewhere; the recommended approach is to keep three pressure points planted, avoid screwing the feet into the ground, and focus on stabilizing the pelvis and glute max first to support the entire chain.
Your feet, box squats and the Beatles
Q: What should the foot actually do in a box squat?
The foot should be supported by three contact points (heel, ball of the foot, and big toe knuckle) with weight distributed to allow the hips to move back and down while keeping the three points on the ground; the goal is to maintain balance and let the heel bear more weight when driving up, rather than gripping or collapsing the foot.
Training Made Simple: A Practical Session
Q: Is it okay for someone to start with something lighter like bands or less resistance during warmups, or should they jump into more demanding movements right away?
The guidance is to use movements that actively train shoulder position and lats engagement from the start, even if that means starting with bodyweight or supported variations and progressively loading as technique and conditioning improve.
Less is more: Rethink coaching
Q: Is it better to offer lots of cues before the movement or to let them perform and adjust afterwards?
Prioritize quality over quantity by explaining only what is necessary to ensure safety and initial understanding, then observe and correct during the movement. Use few concrete cues, and shift to feedback and engagement about the person's feelings, sleep, and day-to-day wellbeing to build connection and improve learning outcomes.
