  • I enjoy the wide range of topics the hosts discuss on this show. My only qualm is that the audio quality isn't always that great. Overall, though, if you enjoy forests, ecology and conservation, this is an entertaining and informative show

From the Woods Today - After Arbor Day: What Happens After a Tree is Planted?
Q: Is there a preventative spray for oak scorch, or any similar treatment for bacterial leaf scorch?
There is no preventative spray for bacterial leaf scorch; keeping trees healthy through proper watering and care is the best course, and treatments that cure rather than slow progression are limited.
From the Woods Today - After Arbor Day: What Happens After a Tree is Planted?
Q: Advice on when to transplant a seedling from a pot to the ground.
Transplant timing is species-dependent, but generally during the dormant season offers the best odds; ensure the root stock is healthy and inspect the root flare to determine depth before planting.
From the Woods Today - Hickories of Kentucky
Q: What regulatory considerations exist when restoring wetlands or modifying water bodies on private land?
Regulations are frequently changing; consult the Division of Water and possibly the Army Corps of Engineers to verify what is allowed, especially for vernal pools and wetlands connected to larger water bodies.
From the Woods Today - Hickories of Kentucky
Q: Are there specific plants that work better than others for floating wetlands?
Native wetland plants are preferred, with cattails and bulrushes highlighted as effective options; overall, a healthy functioning wetland with appropriate native species is key.
From the Woods Today - Fall Mushrooms
Q: Is there something wrong with the tree in the first place that causes the mushrooms to start?
Wounding at the base of a tree creates opportunities for decay fungi to take hold, so mushrooms on living trees can indicate underlying decay, though not all fungi will kill the tree.
