A healthy group maintains daily or frequent contact between meetings, emphasizes safe, vulnerable sharing, has clear guidelines to prevent drifting, and includes an annual retreat to reinforce stories and bonds, with real accountability rather than performance metrics.
15 Years of Freedom from Porn - with Matt Dobscheutz - Ep. 194
Q: What role do daily skills play in sustaining sobriety beyond abstinence?
Skills like honesty, accountability, and environmental management help keep people out of craving cycles. He describes how avoiding the first triggering action, like not scrolling toward porn, creates a momentum that reinforces neutrality and reduces relapse risk over time.

Q: Tell us about the 'normal state of mind' in long-term recovery.
Matt explains that neutrality means being aware of triggers without being drawn into them, and that maintaining this state requires ongoing skills, such as managing cravings, staying accountable, and having a plan to avoid the first trigger. He emphasizes that this state is not passive; it's actively built through discipline, group support, and practical changes.
