  • Great show! Episode suggestion

Hey guys I’m fresh out of college and I have my first job as a data analyst. I was wondering if you guys could do a show on the Pl 300 and what to expect. I’m new to the show so I’m sorry if you did an episode that I missed. The test has changed a lot over the years and I wondered if you guys had any thoughts on the changes.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

515: DAX Complexity & Power Query ETL Tips
Q: What advanced Power Query techniques are most effective for reducing data refresh times in complex ETL pipelines, especially with Fabric Dataflows Gen 2 and SharePoint sources?
Prioritize landing raw data first, use a second attached dataflow for transformations, maximize query folding by rearranging steps, and implement incremental loading to minimize data movement. In Fabric, lean on notebooks for heavy transformations when needed and use lake house storage to optimize data access.
515: DAX Complexity & Power Query ETL Tips
Q: How can we structure complex DAX measures to balance readability and performance with nested time intelligence, dynamic user filters, and multi-grain data?
Focus on patterns like calculation groups to simplify time intelligence, consider data modeling choices that align high- and low-grain views, and assess whether user-driven or filter-driven approaches can be standardized to reduce complexity. In Fabric Gen 2 contexts, attach DAX considerations to Power BI-first guidance while acknowledging Fabric implications.
510: "What's Next?" – Building a 3-Year Power BI Roadmap After a Successful Rollout
Q: How should leaders think about AI's impact on jobs and skills within their teams?
AI will shift the nature of work rather than simply replace it; the emphasis should be on learning to leverage AI to augment capabilities, re-skill where necessary, and design systems where humans guide, verify, and improve AI outputs. Maintaining foundational technical literacy remains essential to diagnose issues and ensure responsible usage.
510: "What's Next?" – Building a 3-Year Power BI Roadmap After a Successful Rollout
Q: What is the next big thing for Power BI in an organization's roadmap, and where should we focus over the next three years?
The recommended direction is to build around agents and AI-assisted workflows, embedding capabilities across Fabric and Power BI to accelerate data-to-decision cycles, monitor usage, and align governance. Emphasize internal adoption first, then extend to external portals and customer-facing data experiences, while simplifying KPI landscapes and consolidating models to avoid fragmentation.
505: Excel vs. Field Parameters
Q: How often are you incorporating field parameters into your report builds?
It's more of a situational basis, not a primary checklist.
