  • “Do you know what democratization is?”

Who even asks something like this? This pod cast is the audio equivalent of a infomercial except the guests are just sales people selling empty databricks/AI promises to business people they think cannot understand them.

  • It is like TED talks for Data Science

And that’s a good and bad thing. I like TED talks as much as the next guy. The only problem with TED talks is that:

    a) they remain ideas.

    b) are prone to that individual’s opinion.

I have the general feeling that the podcast wants to stay ahead of the curve, pitching the newest ideas, bringing in the “hottest” people of the Data World.

And while all of this can be interesting, it seldom is valuable. Because, just like TED talks, there is little depth to it.

This is, I think, a choice which... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#369 How to Become a Top Business Intelligence Analyst | Helen Wall, Founder at Helen Data Design & Microsoft Influencer
Q: What should BI analysts focus on now as AI tools evolve?
BI analysts should focus on maintaining and improving semantic models, ensuring consistent data across environments, and collaborating with IT to balance innovation with stability, rather than chasing every new AI feature.
#369 How to Become a Top Business Intelligence Analyst | Helen Wall, Founder at Helen Data Design & Microsoft Influencer
Q: Do you need to learn to build stuff first or learn the job side of things first to be proficient in BI?
It's a mix; you can study SQL and practice, but true expertise comes from understanding business context and how data products will be used, which often emerges by working with real datasets and production environments.
#369 How to Become a Top Business Intelligence Analyst | Helen Wall, Founder at Helen Data Design & Microsoft Influencer
Q: Great to have you here. To begin with, what separates an okay BI analyst from a really great one?
A great BI analyst goes beyond visuals to understand why stakeholders need what they're asking for, communicates effectively with non-technical users, and designs products that are self-explanatory and sustainable, not just technically impressive.
#367 Don't Build on Jell-O: How to Make Agentic AI Reliable with Dan Klein, CTO at Scaled Cognition
Q: Is the idea of using another AI to check an AI a good approach?
Not generally; model-checking often introduces latency and interaction complexities, and the mistakes tend to be correlated rather than independent, making the approach risky and potentially inefficient.
#367 Don't Build on Jell-O: How to Make Agentic AI Reliable with Dan Klein, CTO at Scaled Cognition
Q: When is correct information absolutely critical, and how do we ensure it's right?
In high-stakes contexts like banking or healthcare and in any scenario where decisions affect people's lives, it's crucial to verify accuracy, measure performance, and maintain continuous auditing before and after deployment.
