I was a guest on this podcast and had fun answering the questions that Paul asked me and also asking him some questions in return. I loved his open and honest answers. I hope his guests learned as much from me as they learned from him during our conversation. Thanks, Paul!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Author John Bond, To the End of Reckoning
Q: What writing techniques or habits do you rely on?
Bond emphasizes writing early when sharpest, plotting extensively (about 90%), seeking honest feedback from a writers' group, and using revision to polish after the initial full draft is down.
Author John Bond, To the End of Reckoning
Q: What is the premise of To the End of Reckoning and where did the idea come from?
The idea emerged around 2020 from observing how people with shared facts arrive at different conclusions, leading to a thought experiment about a film of a famous event and how audiences interpret it differently; the book follows a group chasing the origin of these films.
Author John Bond, To the End of Reckoning
Q: How did you first get involved in books and reading?
Bond recalls auctions and scavenging libraries for affordable books as a child, which sparked a lifelong love of reading and eventually led to his path in librarianship and publishing.
Offshore Commercial Diving and Starting a Business in Panama, Tony Stead
Q: What was the deepest depth you ever dove and how did that impact your career?
He describes hitting 567 feet in saturation, a depth that defined his highest-risk work and required specialized procedures, marking a peak in his technical diving before transitioning to onshore and later entrepreneurial ventures.
Hurricane Force, Tom Cunliffe
Q: How did you find writing fiction compared to nonfiction?
Writing fiction was completely different; it required moving into a different mindset, and plotting the thriller was the hardest part, but once the plot was secured, writing the scenes and developing characters became enjoyable.
