  • My new favorite podcast!

I listen to a lot of podcasts, especially those involving sailing. This one is by far my favorite! Paul’s guests are so diverse and he does a great job of asking insightful questions, as someone who is actually living the lifestyle himself. I always find something that connects with me in every podcast and seeing a new one drop is the highlight of my work week commutes. I’m a supporter on Patreon because, frankly, I pay a lot more money for other media sources that I don’t enjoy nearly as much!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Matt Steverson, The Duracell Project, Converting an Offshore Racer to a Fast Family Cruiser
Q: Where are you going to put the generator and how is the space organized?
The generator will sit in a large systems room under the cockpit aft of the boat, close to the battery bank and propulsion motor to minimize cable runs and keep components centralized.
Matt Steverson, The Duracell Project, Converting an Offshore Racer to a Fast Family Cruiser
Q: What brand of generator and electric motor did you go with?
Power Flow, a local Port Townsend company led by Jack, with a DC generator side as a new product; they are among the first to install it and the team is integrating it into the 48-volt system.
Kevin Wasbauer, Shearwater Sailing
Q: What's a key sail-trim technique racers use that cruisers often overlook?
Using a baby stay with a hydraulic ram to control mast bend and manage sail shape upwind, which helps flatten the mainsail and improves performance.
Kevin Wasbauer, Shearwater Sailing
Q: Tell us about your boat, Atalanta, and its layout.
The boat is a Farr 53 with a split cockpit and aft helm, designed for training and cruising with multiple berths below, a large dodger, and modern electronics; adaptable for both chartered trips and solo sailing.
Kevin Wasbauer, Shearwater Sailing
Q: Tell us where you live and describe the sailing there.
He describes living in Pebble Beach, California, near Monterey Bay, highlighting the open bay, steady wind, and abundant wildlife as a favorable training and sailing environment.
