  • Great host

Martin produces a lot of content and unlike many podcasts doesn’t constantly interrupt the shows with advertisements. Tarrick Brooker is my favorite guest. Some other guests are a bit dubious. I think it would be better if DFA split into two podcasts. One for people who like those regular market updates and another for people who only want to listen to the long format discussions and interviews.

  • Curious listener

I started listening to Martin when his data started to get mainstream airtime and his property crash predictions got him even further air time. That was about 5 years ago. Over this time he had made two big predictions of up to 40% price corrections on the back of his data. Both have come to nothing and in fact prices have grown substantially since this time.

For the record there is no problem in making predictions based on mortgage stress, but given it clearly hasn’t resulted in any significan... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

DFA Live Q&A HD Replay: Is The Australian 30-year Property Super-cycle Over? With Leith van Onselen
Q: What is driving the idea that Australia's 30-year property cycle might be ending?
A combination of higher interest rates, tighter lending for investors, and new budget measures that reduce demand while costs like construction and energy push prices down, suggesting a potential peak followed by a correction.
DFA Live Q&A HD Replay: Households Facing Into The Gale: Latest From Our Surveys!
Q: What does the model say about mortgage stress in the next few years?
Mortgage stress is projected to stay elevated across many scenarios, driven by higher interest rates and cost of living, with some areas experiencing sharper stress than others; the model shows a mix of possible outcomes rather than a single trajectory.
Will “The Perfect Storm” Hit The Property Market?
Q: Will the 'perfect storm' hit the property market, and what are the key scenarios you're considering?
The host outlines multiple scenarios, including a best-case where prices rise modestly due to favorable rate dynamics and migration, a base case with a significant price fall, and a worst case with sharper declines, while noting market dispersion across regions and property types.
DFA Live Q&A: Investing During A “Game Of Thrones” Gulf War: With Damien Klassen
Q: How should different investor horizons influence positioning in this environment?
Martin and Damien discuss that younger investors can maintain a higher equity tilt with a long-term horizon, whereas those closer to retirement should prioritize downside protection and liquidity, using inflation-linked bonds to hedge against rising prices.
DFA Live Q&A: Investing During A “Game Of Thrones” Gulf War: With Damien Klassen
Q: To what extent do you look through the geopolitics and try to modify your portfolios in light of the uncertainty?
Damien explains that diversification across inflation-linked bonds and equities is prudent for long horizons, while acknowledging that the timing and magnitude of policy responses are uncertain; investors should have playbooks ready for multiple scenarios rather than trying to predict a single outcome.
