Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S12 E15: Meghan Joyce, Duckbill
Q: What did the MVP look like in the early days and how did you decide what to build next?
The MVP was a lean, functional version built on nights and weekends to test the core idea. The team learned that rapid, iterative shipping and direct customer feedback guided the roadmap, prioritizing reliability and real user value over feature completeness.
S12 E13: David Matalon, Venn
Q: What do you see as the future of Venn and the broader work environment with AI on the rise?
Leaders should embrace innovation rather than resist it, enabling teams to say yes to AI and use the right tools and contractors; the company will continue to move away from company laptops toward device-agnostic work and AI-enabled collaboration as a core part of work.
S12 E13: David Matalon, Venn
Q: How did you approach building and scaling the team for a remote-first company?
We focused on culture and hiring processes to find the right, highly motivated people who can execute at high quality; we leverage a remote, distributed workforce, live by our values, and emphasize trust and privacy while expanding the team to support growth.
S12 E13: David Matalon, Venn
Q: Let's dive in to the MVP of Venn, then that first version. What was the MVP and how long did it take to reach customers?
The MVP emerged from a secure workspace concept that allowed native apps like Outlook and Zoom to run locally while protecting data; it took roughly two and a half years from the summer of 2020 to late 2022 to bring the product into production for early customers, with commercial launch following in early 2023.
S12 Bonus: Dr. Aqib Rashid, Glasswall
Q: You've touched on the roadmap and scalability — how did you mature the product from MVP to a repeatable, scalable solution?
We built a full ML development lifecycle, including experimentation infrastructure, model assurance, drift monitoring, and a user-friendly interface, while gradually expanding file-type coverage and ensuring performance targets and explainability.
