Eric and his Builder Stories team do an excellent job in digging deep into actual JobTread users to share their insider stories. A great podcast where you can resonate with the guests, and their vulnerabilities/openness they project to the listener.

  • The Missing Piece to a Winning Sales Strategy

What I love about Builder Stories is how real the conversations are. Inside the Elite Builder Society, we see firsthand how powerful it is when contractors combine a solid sales strategy with a platform like JobTread. Roughly 60% of the contractors we coach are already on it, and the results speak for themselves. Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Three Moves That Got Him Out of the Weeds and Back to Building | Dustin Hippensteel of True Grit Roofing
Q: How did you transition from a solo operator to leading a growing team and adopting processes like SOPs and a VA?
The turning point was recognizing I couldn't do everything. I hired a VA to handle routine tasks, documented the workflows into SOPs, and began delegating responsibilities to a leadership team. This shift reduced burnout and created room to scale with a culture and clear expectations.
The Three Moves That Got Him Out of the Weeds and Back to Building | Dustin Hippensteel of True Grit Roofing
Q: What are the differences you've noticed between the different fields you've worked in, and why did you return to roofing with True Grit?
Roofing has historically been where we've performed strongest and made the most consistent money; painting and general contracting were profitable but more fragmented. Focusing on roofing allowed us to leverage existing strengths and build a more predictable business model with better specialization.
The Three Moves That Got Him Out of the Weeds and Back to Building | Dustin Hippensteel of True Grit Roofing
Q: Tell us about how you got into construction and what led you to become a business owner.
I started on building sites as a kid with family projects, learned the trades hands-on, and eventually moved into contracting after a mentorship. It grew from a demand for structure and leadership, and I realized I needed systems, team, and an LLC to scale responsibly.
When the Exit Goes Wrong | Vince Nardo of Master Roofing Solutions and TimeProof USA
Q: What one piece of advice would you give contractors starting out?
Be a student, get a mentor, and don't give up; focus on building a culture and metrics-driven organization from the start.
When the Exit Goes Wrong | Vince Nardo of Master Roofing Solutions and TimeProof USA
Q: Why did you decide to exit to private equity, and what would you do differently now?
The decision was driven by risk considerations around market changes and debt; the lesson is to vet partners more thoroughly and retain operational control where possible to protect legacy and people.
