  • First stop for builders seeking updated building methods

Excellent practical building advice, lots of new product exposure and great high performance home tips. Matt does a good job of covering building methods across all the climate zones which couldn’t be more important. I had to take a star for frequently repeating his 08 crash story and increasing bible verses.

Why Every Custom Builder Needs a Building Science Consultant
Q: What is the practical impact of climate and site on enclosure design?
Each climate zone and site imposes unique moisture transport and condensation risks; design must account for dew point and vapor dynamics to prevent interior condensation and long-term damage.
Why Every Custom Builder Needs a Building Science Consultant
Q: How is the cost of building science consulting typically structured?
Billing is sometimes a mix of time and percentage of construction cost; regardless, the investment is generally cheaper than fixing problems later, and can be paid directly by owners to RDH.
Why Every Custom Builder Needs a Building Science Consultant
Q: How do builders typically start working with RDH Building Science on a project?
Architects or clients reach out, often via RFPs, and RDH integrates in schematic design to align the vision with constructability, materials, and detailing from the outset.
The 5 Principles of a Healthy Home
Q: Will you give us the overview on what those five principles are?
The five principles are to start with a good enclosure, minimize indoor emissions, keep the space dry, ventilate adequately, and ensure proper filtration, with each step addressing how the indoor environment interacts with health, comfort, and durability.
The Science Behind Air Leakage Testing
Q: For someone who doesn't know The Energy Conservatory, who are you guys and what is your company all about?
Steve and Bill describe The Energy Conservatory as a company known for the Minneapolis Blower Door and for a broader suite of testing tools for building diagnostics, with a mission to help builders create better-performing, healthier, and more durable homes rather than just selling a product.
