Love this show- the thoughtful discussions from differing view points,
But mainly writing to say I know of the Deerness Mermaid! (Latest show topic) -but then I’ve lived in Deerness for the last 30 plus years!
Small aside- she’s even appeared in my DnD games a few years back when I homebrew an Orkney Story! (Along with the Nucklelevee!)
I really enjoyed this episode, coming from a bell-oriented midlands town with a campanilismo-inspiring tower at its centre.
Regarding supernatural ringing of servants bells, in one of Richmal Crompton’s books I remember William Brown and his Outlaws discovered a bell wire within reach of a window in some local bigwig’s house and reached in pull them, setting the servants running all over the house in confusion.
I cannot recommend this show enough. I enjoy every minute of it. Chris and Simon make a fantastic team, their back and forth really adds to the expertise they bring to each topic.
5 stars to Chris and Simon for these fascinating and compelling podcasts . Presented with expertise and authenticity while also injecting humour and fun. Love it !
Chris and Simon do great work by looking at academic sources and explaining cultural contexts of the supernatural. That explanation made it sound boring or tedious, but it is absolutely not. They discuss things in an approachable way and make the topics fun. I love any episode on faerie lore!
