  • Interesting pod

Very interesting pod. But the sound quality (at least in the early eppisodes) is bad and the theme ”song” is so awful you have to skip it.

Get rid of the song and sound effects (echo etc.)

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Aurora Secrets & Space Weather: Dr. Maria-Theresia Walach | AstroPhiz 232
Q: How do you balance teaching, research, and outreach in your day-to-day work?
She describes mornings as prime thinking time for writing, with the rest of the day split between meetings, teaching, and heavy computer work analyzing big data; outreach is a valued component she believes inspires wider interest in physics.
Aurora Secrets & Space Weather: Dr. Maria-Theresia Walach | AstroPhiz 232
Q: What upcoming missions or instruments are changing how we study auroras?
The SMILE mission will image the entire auroral oval from space with an auroral imager and an X-ray camera to study boundary processes in the magnetosphere, offering unprecedented views since the IMAGE mission, and it's expected to launch in spring 2024–2025 window.
Aurora Secrets & Space Weather: Dr. Maria-Theresia Walach | AstroPhiz 232
Q: Can you summarize what makes auroras appear green, red, or violet at different altitudes?
Green aurora primarily comes from excited oxygen below about 200 km; red from higher-altitude oxygen; blue and violet hues come from nitrogen at various altitudes, with pinkish edges arising from nitrogen interactions and atmospheric structure; UV aurora from space reveals energy input locations.
May SkyGuide with Dr. Ian Musgrave – Comet C/2025 R3 & Citizen Science | Astrophiz 233
Q: Okay, so if you got fast internet, do they come down as JPEGs or FITs files?
They come down as JPEGs for quick viewing, but FITS files offer more detail and require a bit more patience as they are uploaded later; you'll need a viewer that can handle FITS to maximize data and background improvement.
Galaxy Forensics: Decoding Galaxy Evolution with Dr. Elisabete da Cunha (Astrophiz 230)
Q: What are you keeping an eye on for the future in your field?
Further observations of the earliest galaxies, the exoplanet atmosphere studies with JWST, and the ongoing exploration of how to combine multi-wavelength data to unravel galaxy evolution and the search for potentially habitable worlds.
