  • Interesting pod

Very interesting pod. But the sound quality (at least in the early eppisodes) is bad and the theme ”song” is so awful you have to skip it.

Get rid of the song and sound effects (echo etc.)

Q: How did COVID affect you and your family and what was the impact on your astrophysics research at that important part of your studies?
Anya shares that COVID led to a sense of isolation, affecting her motivation due to the lack of in-person collaboration with her research group, highlighting the importance of social connections and happiness in research.
Astrophiz214-DrAnyaNugent
Q: Can you summarize your conclusions in your thesis for us, please, Anya?
Anya explains that her thesis focused on short gamma-ray bursts and neutron star mergers contributing to the creation of heavy elements in the universe, positing that they likely began polluting the universe with these elements very early after the Big Bang.

Q: How did COVID affect you and your family and what was the impact on your studies and were there lessons learned?
The COVID lockdown was isolating and scary, but I was fortunate because I was already studying online, so it did not require adaptation. A key takeaway was that reasonable adjustments for accessibility are possible.
Astronomy Astrophiz 212-CiaraGuy-Space Governance
Q: Can you tell us what inspired you to take on a gruelling law degree and then take it even further with the Masters?
The head injury caused numerous problems that made me frustrated, and I took the opportunity to do a degree with the Open University as a way to build towards the future and manage my disability while doing something meaningful.
