Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Stop Overthinking Business with Rael Bricker
Q: What would your advice be to entrepreneurs who are stuck in analysis paralysis mode?
Trust your gut and move forward with action rather than getting lost in endless spreadsheets; you should test ideas quickly, be willing to pivot when needed, and focus on delivering value to customers rather than obsessing over perfect plans. Aim to keep momentum and adjust your course while you're moving forward.
Your Business Owns You with Maria Gallucci
Q: What practical advice would you give to a business owner who wants to improve accessibility and inclusion in their services?
Start by investing in interpreters and accessibility infrastructure early, don't rely on captions alone, and build processes that make accessibility a core part of every closing or meeting, which not only helps clients but also strengthens your reputation and compliance.
Your Business Owns You with Maria Gallucci
Q: How does niching into the ASL/deaf community influence your marketing and lead generation compared to a more generic approach?
Niching gives a clear, compelling problem to solve and a unique story, which makes it easier to attract referrals, create targeted content, and rank in search and AI results as the go-to expert for that need, rather than competing as a generalist.
Changing the Game with Andrew Ackerman
Q: What happened after you moved from the startup to venture, and how did you pivot Dreamit to a later-stage model?
He explains the challenge of a crowded accelerator market and the realization that late-stage startups and corporate partnerships were a better fit. They redesigned the program around later-stage companies, created industry-focused tracks, and dropped the demo-day-focused format in favor of “investor sprints,” leading to more effective engagement and growth.
Changing the Game with Andrew Ackerman
Q: So, Andrew, take us back in time. How did you start in startups and transition from being a founding COO to an early-stage investor?
Andrew describes starting in the 90s, founding Bunk One, moving through early startup experiences, and gradually shifting into venture by building visibility through Alley Watch and angel investor interviews, which helped him land a role in the venture space and shape his approach. The conversation stresses the importance of speaking the directors' language, building a track record, and networking strategically.
