Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why You Shouldn't Claim Social Security Too Early w/ Jason Fichtner
Q: What do you say to arguments that seniors are doing fine and Social Security is unfair to younger generations?
The answer is nuanced: there are seniors doing well and those who aren't, and reforms should be targeted; the program is a social insurance system with a three-legged stool including Social Security, employer-sponsored plans, and personal savings; broad branding as a crisis is misleading.
Comedian Missy Hall & Finding the Humor in Growing Older (Season 4 Debut!)
Q: Is it ever too late to start something new, especially for people in our age group?
She believes that it's never too late to try something; you don't have to go all-in, but taking steps toward a new interest can be transformative.
Comedian Missy Hall & Finding the Humor in Growing Older (Season 4 Debut!)
Q: You got into comedy when you were 45, how did you get started and why did you get started?
She was encouraged by others in theater and a hosting opportunity led her to warm up an audience, which sparked confidence to pursue stand-up, despite not fitting a traditional starting path.
Senator Ron Wyden: Trump Leaves People "in the Dust" (Encore episode)
Q: How do you assess the role of insurance companies and the administration in this open enrollment period?
Wyden argues insurers are using delaying tactics and overbilling, while the administration pushes policies that reduce bargaining power and shift costs to consumers, underscoring the need for stronger consumer protections and oversight.
Senator Ron Wyden: Trump Leaves People "in the Dust" (Encore episode)
Q: What exactly is at stake for seniors with these health care policy changes?
Senator Wyden explains that automatic Medicare cuts, Medicaid reductions, and higher premiums jeopardize seniors' ability to pay for basics, like housing and food, and could lead to greater deterioration of health outcomes for those on the edge financially.
