4.5 out of 5 stars from 1.3k ratings
  • No more Dave Clark

Great show, quick hits, easy listen. Love the data oriented delivery that lacks with most media. Please don’t bother brining in experts from Ticket News to talk about “feelings” “perceptions” and “sentiments’l.” Three minutes wasted saying there is no way to know!

  • Redundant

In a 7 to 9 minute production, I get the same ad twice, for each product.

Then I can’t wait for the local business person who is getting screwed by the tariffs story.

The flower shop owner, the tea importer, and now the coffee shop operator interviews consumes another 2-3 minutes. It’s the same story! We all know small business is getting screwed over by tariffs.

Morning Report is becoming an “oh woe is me”environment like Make Me Smart.

I am worried this will exacerbate with bringing Deb... more

  • So Sad

The pprogram has turned more and more opinion over the years and it overshadows the headlines to the detriment of young listeners. Sadly the value is gone and the conclusions harm followers.

  • One of the best!

Great content, delivered concisely & professionally. Keep up the good work, y’all. A gentle reminder to other listeners, there’s a fast forward button to mitigate your frustration with the ads. Super easy & quite effective.

  • Please stop with the Thoughts on the Market Ads!

The reporting content is great once you get to it, but it’s becoming really irksome to have to listen to the same speaking Morgan Stanley’s Thoughts on the Market podcast ad — the speaking voice is incredibly annoying, inconsistent with the strong clear cadence of Marketplace, and most listeners don’t want to have to fast-forward every episode.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

A new round of tariffs on just about everything
Q: Let's start with what happened overnight. What new tariffs did we wake up to this morning?
We learned that the US is imposing a tariff regime of 10% to 12.5% on about 60 trading partners, with exemptions for items like instant coffee and cork, and ongoing developments from a broader Section 301 investigation that could lead to more tariffs on additional countries.
Sorry, Canada. You're not invited.
Q: What is the AFL-CIO's stance on the impact of AI and data centers on workers?
Liz Schuler describes a balanced approach where unions push for safety guardrails, high-wage jobs, strong benefits, and partnerships with tech firms to ensure AI and data center growth creates opportunity rather than harm for workers.
Tallying the costs of Europe's heatwaves
Q: When we talk about heatwaves, like the one that you all have been having in Europe, where do the biggest economic costs show up?
Elizabeth Robinson explains that costs show up in reduced labor productivity, changes in working hours, and direct mortality costs, with estimates in the UK running into the billions for lost output and deaths; ongoing adaptation and policy responses will shape longer-term growth.
AI, labor unions, and the midterm elections
Q: What choices do workers still have in this moment?
Workers can organize, educate, and mobilize at the local and state levels to influence policy and push for worker-centered AI safeguards, even as federal progress remains uneven, creating a window for action over the next few years.
The rising star in chipmaking you may not have heard of
Q: How much of that defense spending increase do you think is from pressure from the US versus Russia's invasion and geopolitical realities on Europe's doorstep?
It's a combination; US pressure has historically been a factor, but the recent war in Ukraine and its spillover effects have significantly driven European budgeting decisions beyond any single policy push.
