  • One of the best!

Great content, delivered concisely & professionally. Keep up the good work, y’all. A gentle reminder to other listeners, there’s a fast forward button to mitigate your frustration with the ads. Super easy & quite effective.

  • Please stop with the Thoughts on the Market Ads!

The reporting content is great once you get to it, but it’s becoming really irksome to have to listen to the same speaking Morgan Stanley’s Thoughts on the Market podcast ad — the speaking voice is incredibly annoying, inconsistent with the strong clear cadence of Marketplace, and most listeners don’t want to have to fast-forward every episode.

  • I don’t mind the ads

Marketplace, I don’t mind the ads, especially when public funding is under threat. Do what you gotta do. And thank you for all you do. You’re still the best.

  • Chock full of ads

NPR / Public Media double dipping into private advertisers on top of all the free national tax payer money they receive. This podcast is nearly 20% or more of ads. Overmonetized but I guess you can get away with it having the name Marketplace.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Kevin Warsh and the Fed's balance sheet
Q: How long would you say we have for this standoff to continue until the pressure on oil markets becomes too much and markets just have to respond?
The analyst suggests we may see meaningful economic impacts within a week or two, as airline fuel concerns and broader energy-market stress begin to bite, signaling a tipping point for policy and markets.
Trump's pick for Fed chair heads to Capitol Hill
Q: What exactly is social capital?
Social capital is a network of trust and shared norms that binds people together; it can increase productivity and economic growth through higher cooperation and civic engagement.
Fearing the "black hole" of graduating without a job
Q: What are you most concerned about as you approach graduation, and how are you planning to navigate the job market?
The guest describes fear of a difficult job market but emphasizes proactive steps like preparing for a field with high competition, considering multiple pathways, and focusing on skills that stay relevant (e.g., AI, software, and hardware).
The haves and the have nots of energy
Q: What is a piece of advice that well-meaning adults give to young people that you think is total BS?
Kantor argues that the notion that everything is doomed is not true; instead, she emphasizes staying intelligent about data, recognizing personal agency, embracing disruption as an opportunity, and focusing on building craft and finding meaningful need in the world rather than surrendering to fear.
So many different flavors of oil
Q: What makes the spot price so much higher than the price for delivery a month from now?
The physical market is tight because getting a barrel into a buyer's hands is difficult right now; storage, tanker availability, and chokepoints like the Strait of Hormuz create a premium for immediate delivery.
