  • Ads on marketplace.

Too many ads. I’ve stopped listening to this podcast.

  • Just combine multiple shows

I love and support all the Marketplace shows. Phenomenal reporting. But their short shows are just too ad heavy minute for minute. Would be great to get MP Tech segments in a longer, combined format so the ads are quite so prevalent compared to the content.

  • 50% of episode is ads???

Listened to an 8 minute episode and I kid you not, 4 minutes of it is ads, including 90sec before the episode intro. Will not listen again.

  • Decent, but far too many ads (>50% of play time)

I just finished listening to today’s 8 minute podcast. Approximately 4 minutes and 15 seconds of it was advertisements and that’s not including the necessary fluff and introductory stuff. This podcast is now literally more advertising than it is content, which is sad to see (since I’m sure it’s necessary now).

  • Good content, too many ads

I like the quick updates but the content to commercials ratio is off. It is a short podcast but often has 4-6 ads. I get you have to raise money but seems excessive.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The ethics of using AI to immortalize the dead
Q: Tell me about the ethical concerns you have about this technology.
Ethical concerns center on post-mortem dignity and privacy, including consent to use someone's data after death, and whether data collected while alive could be used in ways the person wouldn't have approved, which could harm family dynamics and the person's memory.
How low-cost drones are used in modern military strikes
Q: What worries you about this technology?
The biggest concerns are that drones can be bought and weaponized by a wide range of actors, including terrorists and criminals, and that the threat is continually evolving in ways that outpace simple countermeasures.
Bytes: Week in Review - Amazon and AI, YouTube tops the media market and Meta buys an AI-only social network
Q: What do you think Amazon's AI-related outages reveal about the adoption of generative AI in large e-commerce platforms?
They show that rapid AI deployment can introduce risk, and there is a need for guardrails and oversight to avoid outages and unsafe code, especially when AI is integrated into critical customer-facing systems.
Why Bitcoin falls short as a safe haven in geopolitical turmoil
Q: And you see it reported that some traders are investing in Bitcoin now as a hedge against inflation. Can you talk a little bit about what that means?
The guest explains that Bitcoin's fixed supply and independence from government currencies make it appealing during inflationary periods, but its price remains volatile and it is not universally viewed as a safe haven yet; its use as a hedge depends on how investors value its scarcity versus its liquidity and acceptance.
Digital archiving and the global memory shortage
Q: What advice do you have for people who want to make sure they don't lose old photos or years of audio recordings, let's say, asking for a friend?
Focus on creating multiple copies across different media, avoid over-reliance on a single cloud provider, and plan for ongoing migration to new storage formats as technology evolves, because both hardware availability and file formats change over time.
