  • Ads on marketplace.

Too many ads. I’ve stopped listening to this podcast.

  • Just combine multiple shows

I love and support all the Marketplace shows. Phenomenal reporting. But their short shows are just too ad heavy minute for minute. Would be great to get MP Tech segments in a longer, combined format so the ads are quite so prevalent compared to the content.

  • 50% of episode is ads???

Listened to an 8 minute episode and I kid you not, 4 minutes of it is ads, including 90sec before the episode intro. Will not listen again.

  • Decent, but far too many ads (>50% of play time)

I just finished listening to today’s 8 minute podcast. Approximately 4 minutes and 15 seconds of it was advertisements and that’s not including the necessary fluff and introductory stuff. This podcast is now literally more advertising than it is content, which is sad to see (since I’m sure it’s necessary now).

  • Good content, too many ads

I like the quick updates but the content to commercials ratio is off. It is a short podcast but often has 4-6 ads. I get you have to raise money but seems excessive.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

34 days without internet in Iran
Q: What is the stated rationale during this event for cutting off the internet?
The host and guest discuss that authorities claim protective measures for civilians, but the guest contends the aim is to control narratives and suppress mobilization during war and protests.
34 days without internet in Iran
Q: Are there any workarounds like virtual private networks or satellite Internet Starlink?
Amir Rashidi explains that while there are tools to communicate locally, broad access is still hampered by infrastructure and policy, limiting the effectiveness of workarounds for the general population in Iran.
MLB brings automated ball-strike tech to the Big Leagues
Q: Do you think human umpires should be worried about their jobs?
I don't think so; while the ABS can handle many calls, baseball still benefits from the human element for judgment in edge cases and maintaining the game's feel, and MLB plans to use ABS as a complement rather than a full replacement.
Meta and Youtube held liable for their addictive products
Q: Do you think we'll see platforms preemptively change services to avoid more action, or will litigation push stronger protections and changes?
Platforms are already rolling out new safety initiatives and controls to address child safety, and legislation could require deeper changes beyond what platforms voluntarily do. Litigation may push remedies that exceed voluntary actions if the courts see a broader obligation to protect users, especially children.
Meta and Youtube held liable for their addictive products
Q: Remind us what the role of Section 230 was in this LA case, and does the verdict have any implications for Section 230 going forward?
Section 230 shields platforms from liability for user-generated content, but the plaintiffs argued liability based on design and presentation. The distinction could affect how appeals address the role of Section 230 moving forward, potentially narrowing or redefining its protections depending on editorial responsibility versus user content.
