  • Ads on marketplace.

Too many ads. I’ve stopped listening to this podcast.

  • Just combine multiple shows

I love and support all the Marketplace shows. Phenomenal reporting. But their short shows are just too ad heavy minute for minute. Would be great to get MP Tech segments in a longer, combined format so the ads are quite so prevalent compared to the content.

  • 50% of episode is ads???

Listened to an 8 minute episode and I kid you not, 4 minutes of it is ads, including 90sec before the episode intro. Will not listen again.

  • Decent, but far too many ads (>50% of play time)

I just finished listening to today’s 8 minute podcast. Approximately 4 minutes and 15 seconds of it was advertisements and that’s not including the necessary fluff and introductory stuff. This podcast is now literally more advertising than it is content, which is sad to see (since I’m sure it’s necessary now).

  • Good content, too many ads

I like the quick updates but the content to commercials ratio is off. It is a short podcast but often has 4-6 ads. I get you have to raise money but seems excessive.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Introducing the world’s largest Math Olympiad database
Q: Could you tell me more about what it means to gather problems from many countries and put them into one dataset?
It expands the diversity of math problems and sources, allowing models to learn from a broader set of challenges and teaching humans and machines to leverage powerful search and step-by-step solutions to understand how problems are solved.
What a reform to Section 702 could look like
Q: Is there bipartisan momentum to pass any reforms this year, and what are the main political hurdles?
There is some bipartisan support to close loopholes, but there's also strong opposition from those who want to maintain broad surveillance powers, making it unclear how or whether reforms will materialize this year.
What a reform to Section 702 could look like
Q: What do you think is at stake for ordinary Americans as these reforms move through Congress?
The episode suggests ordinary Americans' privacy could be protected by requiring warrants for accessing communications collected under Section 702, reducing the risk of abuse, while still allowing national security investigations under controlled conditions.
Bytes: Week in Review — Apple’s new CEO, Meta's latest AI play, and Roblox's safety updates
Q: What sort of protections would you hope to see for kids as they go online in the future?
The discussion emphasized universal age verification, shielding minors from harmful content, and using age checks alongside other protective measures to balance safety with user experience.
Bytes: Week in Review — Apple’s new CEO, Meta's latest AI play, and Roblox's safety updates
Q: How commonplace do you think this kind of monitoring will become in tech companies and beyond?
The hosts anticipated growing ubiquity, arguing that as large players like Meta adopt such practices, smaller firms may follow, while there are concerns about privacy and the long-term impact on creativity and morale.
