  • Great Show

I really like the show and think the journalists are great, but I have a small complaint about being able to hear Nancy Marshall-Ginser’s saliva when she talks. Her voice and reporting are fine and it seems like a silly complaint, but I’ve been a frequent listener for years and find it to be a consistent issue with either the way she talks or the vocal production. It makes listening with headphones so insufferable I find myself skipping her sections at times.

  • Left-wing Editorial…

…. Disguised as a “Economics” show!

NPR, which is “Never-ending Political Rhetoric” has now taken over the last bastion of news on business, markets and the economy!

Taking over Marketplace by insidiously embedding left wing political rhetoric and editorials in their “make me smart” (ironic!) rather than focus on business and the economy! For Gods sake, please stop with this nonsense, stick to markets, leave politics out of it!!!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is it time for a new career?
Q: How do you start narrowing down career options when overwhelmed?
Use a structured inward look (emotion inventory) to identify what you want to avoid and what you value, then brainstorm blue-sky ideas and test them with small, concrete steps.
SpaceX is reportedly overvalued ahead of its IPO
Q: What stood out to you in the SpaceX S1 and its valuation, given the skepticism around the numbers?
Liz Lopatto highlights that the SpaceX valuation is built on an exceptionally large total addressable market framed around AI and space, but the AI linkage feels tenuous and the overall TAM appears inflated. She also notes Morningstar's caution and the difficulty of reconciling the hype with conservative financial analysis, suggesting a prudent view despite investor enthusiasm.
Oil markets scramble after new strikes in the Middle East
Q: What's behind these rising oil prices? Why are traders bidding up crude?
The guest explains that geopolitical tensions, especially in the Middle East, keep supply paths (like the Strait of Hormuz) uncertain, leading traders to expect higher and more volatile prices for longer, rather than a quick reversion to pre-crisis levels.
Small businesses (finally) get to hiring
Q: What is a bank charter?
A bank charter is the legal framework that allows a company to operate as a bank, accept deposits, issue loans, and access federal regulation and insurance; it enables direct operation rather than relying on partner banks.
Maryland's plan for the AI future
Q: How will residents notice the impact of the Anthropic partnership and One Stop Initiative?
Residents will experience more seamless access to benefits and services through AI-enabled constituent services, where interactions with state models streamline eligibility checks and cross-service support, reducing repetitive applications.
