  • Solid info, but a bit hoity-toity

Information is always well-presented, but not sure how in touch with average Americans these guys are. They tend to shame listeners who ask questions and don’t “know better”, which is off-putting. Not everyone has had the same opportunities in life that you two have had, but we’re all trying. Maybe tone down some of the privileges that you’ve enjoyed in your life as well, like trips to Disney World just to get away from bad weather, going to the Masters Tournament, etc. It’s obviously your po... more

  • Unplayable on IPhone

This is by far my favorite show and I’ve followed them for a long time. My main reason for adding this review is to hopefully get the team to reach out to Apple. I’ve reported my concern with Apple Podcasts multiple times the last year but nothing has been done. Each time I try to play an episode it tells me that it cannot be played on this device (IPhone 17 Pro). I worry there are many others who want to listen to this show but are being stopped by apples bugs.

  • I used to really enjoy The Money Guy podcast, especially the Financial Order of Operations. For a while, it felt like one of the more practical and grounded personal finance shows out there. Unfortunately, the recent episodes have made it harder for me to take their advice seriously. What’s changed for me is that their guidance feels a lot more subjective than it used to. Not unsubscribing yet, but less enthusiastic about their content than I used to be.

  • A good show for the 20 and 30’s crowd

I’ve listened to these folks for a while. They stick to their script which could be very helpful for someone starting out. I am really older and on the other end of the curve than the audience they aim for but for good old southern banter when you’re driving it’s good.

  • Modern Dave Ramsey [UPDATE]

[3 months later, and there has been nothing new, nothing insightful. Their new show is a watered down Ramit Sethi.]

I don’t think I have learned a single thing from this show in years. It’s the same stuff, constantly regurgitated, with nothing new or insightful. Like Dave Ramsey, it’s a “my way or the highway” show. Fortunately, TMG recognize where Ramsey is flat-out wrong. Unfortunately, TMG have their own shortcomings in approach and philosophy. To be honest, their whole purpose seems to be h... more

The Uncomfortable Truth About the SpaceX IPO
Q: What is the recommended approach to term life insurance as wealth grows?
Even with high net worth, term life insurance can remain cost-effective and provide a buffer for dependents if income is disrupted. The speakers advocate keeping affordable term coverage to protect current-day expenses and family security, while avoiding letting policy premiums erode investment goals.
The Uncomfortable Truth About the SpaceX IPO
Q: When is a vacation home appropriate for a family?
Consider the long-term financial impact and whether the lifestyle benefits are worth the ongoing costs. They recommend rigorous math and savings-rate discipline (preferably well above 25%), and suggest alternatives like using vacation properties via rental or shared access to achieve the experience at lower cost, unless the family is already in a highly frothy financial position.
The Uncomfortable Truth About the SpaceX IPO
Q: How can you enjoy wealth without fostering entitlement in your children?
Balance is key: share the value of money and the rewards of hard work, while creating structured learning experiences and exposure to money management (e.g., assigning chores with earnings, custodial Roth IRAs, and matching savings). Emphasize experiences over material possessions and teach your children to work and save early, so wealth serves as a tool rather than a status symbol.
The Uncomfortable Truth About the SpaceX IPO
Q: What should someone consider when deciding about a 529 college savings plan versus other priorities?
Evaluate whether saving at the level of the state deduction makes sense given your overall savings rate and retirement planning. The recommendation is to prioritize your own retirement funding first (goal of 25%+ of gross income) and consider a smaller 529 contribution if it doesn't compromise retirement goals, using projections to decide if the amount is necessary.
The Uncomfortable Truth About the SpaceX IPO
Q: How should you evaluate salary versus equity with private company offers?
The guidance centers on understanding how the private stock has performed historically, the liquidity path, and the realistic trajectory of value, then weighing the non-cash components against your current financial needs and risk tolerance. It also emphasizes ensuring you can actually exercise options or realize value when liquidity is available, and cautions against overallocating to illiquid equity if it would jeopardize ongoing financial stability.
