  • From great to unlistenable

This podcast had so much value and was a straightforward, engaging listening experience. Then Jonathan returned as cohost and it is shocking how unlistenable it has become. He’s not evil and his ideas aren’t bad or out of alignment with the ethos of the podcast, but he takes 10,000 words and 1400 tangents to add… nothing… of value to a point.

The FI 201 episode is a great example. It takes him MINUTES to spit out the question “what questions were coming up most frequently in your community for... more

  • So Inspiring

I found this podcast about a week ago and I loved it so much I went all the way to the beginning and it's so inspiring and has such great info. I've never been into a podcast more, I'm normally listening to music 24/7, at work, at the gym, driving....since I found this podcast it is the only thing playing through my headphones, speakers, etc. I realize I have been doing it all wrong and I'm trying to jump start my progress since I'm behind so I've even been listening to this when I go to bed. Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

610 | Sabbatical Success: Around the World in 367 Days
Q: How did you decide to take a year off and travel the world?
They were inspired by a life-long interest in travel, a wish to escape a cycle of debt and scarcity, and a belief in financial independence that would allow such a year-long adventure without compromising their future. They also wanted to learn more about themselves and their relationship through a flexible, experiential approach.
607 | Other Mountains I Want to Climb | Diania Merriam
Q: What role does community play in maintaining FI and life design?
Community provides accountability, inspiration, and practical guidance; being around like-minded people helps normalize pursuing big life decisions and sustains motivation, making it easier to take the next small step toward a bigger goal.
607 | Other Mountains I Want to Climb | Diania Merriam
Q: What ambitions have disappeared since you got to FI?
Ambitions have shifted from aiming to grow economies and scale, to prioritizing a life with less financial risk and more freedom to pursue other mountains (like writing, acting as an agent for a partner, or hosting retreats) while maintaining a sustainable, enjoyable lifestyle.
601 | Travel Rewards 101 | Devon Gimbel from Point Me to First Class
Q: How long would it take to go from zero to your first nearly free trip?
By starting with one transferable points card, putting major expenses on that card, and leveraging a partner to meet the spend, a typical household could accumulate hundreds of thousands of points in a few months, enough for a meaningful trip; but the exact timeline depends on personal spend and the cards chosen.
Building An Extraordinary Life Through FI
Q: What traits do extraordinary people share?
They believe they can do it, they take action, and they continuously experiment rather than just consuming information; they engage with others, ask questions, and focus on being useful rather than showcasing expertise.
