If you’re looking for something educational, look elsewhere. If you’re looking for something entertaining, again, look elsewhere. The host’s voice is sultry and soothing but the content has little direction and unless you’re a language/literature buff or majoring in some useless Liberal Arts Degree where you’re probably listening to this in your parents’ basement...you guessed it, look elsewhere.
Great podcast! Every episode is something different, interesting, and relatable, full of wonderful and insightful conversations! I look forward to this every week and you should too!!
Words in the Middle gives listeners an extra ear into the elements of our current lexicon. Laura and her guests explore these words and the idioms that emerge from them, reminding us that language can be both fluid and concrete. More than anything, though, the show moves toward a dive into the depths of music, literature, media, and the vehicles that drive language into our everyday sense of self and the cultures we practice and preserve.
Laura does a wonderful job mixing the content of exploring language; how it has evolved and continues to evolve, with a comfortability and human touch. You can hear her authenticity pour out in her thanks to sign off the episode, while enjoying her humor and personal perspective in her conversation with Jen and her student. I’m going to continue to listen to every episode so I can call in one day and say “long time listener, first time caller”.
