  • Great Conversation about Relationships!

I loved being a guest on this podcast. Dr. Moali treated the subject of relationship diversity with respect and curiosity. I appreciate her openness to explore new ways of being in relationships with others. I listened to many of her other episodes about sex and pleasure and they are also very insightful.

  • Used to be good. Now it’s just an infomercial.

I had to unsubscribe. They’re just phoning it in recently. Very templated. Very little content that’s not trying to sell you a product. Almost all the guests are selling their product or service.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

EP482 - Your Sexual Nervous System and Stages of Foreplay
Q: How should couples handle a mismatch in desire without pressuring the lower-desire partner?
Start with the nervous state first, avoid pressuring sex, and use transition rituals to build safety. If one partner isn't in the mood, communicate clearly about continuing connection in non-sexual ways and plan future opportunities for touch when both are more available.
EP482 - Your Sexual Nervous System and Stages of Foreplay
Q: What are some practical activities couples can do to create that rest-and-digest state before moving into intimacy?
Individuals can practice auto-regulation through breathing with extended exhales, vagus nerve stimulation (e.g., humming, light movement), and then engage in co-regulation with slower touch, softer voices, and rituals that acknowledge the end of the day and reorient to the two of them.
EP482 - Your Sexual Nervous System and Stages of Foreplay
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about what's actually happening in our nervous system when we go from daily life to erotic mode?
We're usually in sympathetic activation, a fight-or-flight state that helps with problem-solving, but it's not optimized for erotic response. Erotic connection requires a nervous-system state shift into safety, where parasympathetic activation supports relaxation, presence, and receptivity to arousal.
EP480 - The Impact of GLP-1’s and ED: Helpful or Hurtful
Q: What treatment options exist for erectile dysfunction beyond medications?
A multi-modal approach is used, including lifestyle changes, testosterone optimization when needed, shockwave therapy for vascular health, penile injections, and ultimately penile prostheses with high satisfaction rates.
EP480 - The Impact of GLP-1’s and ED: Helpful or Hurtful
Q: What did the study find about the risk of erectile dysfunction after starting GLP-1 therapy?
The study found the overall rate of erectile dysfunction was very low (about 1%), slightly higher than those not on GLP-1s but not indicative of major sexual side effects.
