  • Cheap and lazy

The use of AI generated slop for a podcast that evidently has the financial backing to pay artists is both insulting and genuinely just really cheap.

    Do better. This stinks

  • Great fodder for the brain…

…when Philip Shane and Prof. Matt Stanley delve into one of their scientific / technological / cultural ”what the ifs”. The best that I know the responses from Matt Stanley are mainly improvised on the spot (which gave me a weird tangent, as the voice of Matt sounds very similar to the know-it-all droid C-53 from Mission-to-Zyxx, an equally improvised, albeit fully fictional, great podcast)

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ants Adopt A CATERPILLAR!
Q: What safety protocols would people need to adhere to?
The discussion emphasizes practical safety: be fast or clever when tiny, mimic ant signals, and avoid detection to survive inside the nest; it frames safety as a set of rules for a fictional scenario.
Ants Adopt A CATERPILLAR!
Q: What are they about to experience?
They are about to experience a guided thought experiment where shrinking, mimicking ants, and navigating an ant colony are explored with a blend of biology and imaginative storytelling.
Reality Is Making Stuff UP!
Q: What is the basic idea behind the uncertainty principle and how does it relate to measuring particles?
It relates to a fundamental trade-off between knowing where a particle is and where it's going; attempting to measure one property precisely increases uncertainty in the other, and this trade-off underpins how we understand quantum systems.
Black Holes
Q: Why are primordial black holes considered as a potential explanation for the Tunguska Explosion?
Primordial black holes were suggested as candidates because they could cause significant energy release without leaving debris, making them a fitting explanation for the unexplained damage in the Tunguska incident.
Black Holes
Q: What would these microscopic black holes look like?
These tiny black holes would be so small that they wouldn't form an accretion disk and would be undetectable like larger black holes; they interact through gravity but not in the visual ways we see with supermassive black holes.
