I am a big fan of What on Earth - love the staff and that it’s on CBC. The re-freezing arctic ice piece was interesting and inciteful and re-hearing Patti Gonia’s interview was beautiful and also timely as I’ve just discovered Yo Yo Ma’s new podcast with WNYC Our Common Nature - maybe you’ve already got him lined up for future episode - keep up the great work.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How much is Canada’s wilderness worth?
Q: But why now though? I mean, why do you need to make that business case at this moment?
The driver is that a lot of funding toward conservation is about to expire, so making the business case now helps policymakers understand the facts and why continued investment is essential for both the economy and the environment.
Another reason Greenland's not for sale: climate change
Q: What worries you most about the idea of the US acquiring more control of Greenland?
Access for scientific research could be impeded under US control, hindering vital work necessary to understand climate impacts.
Another reason Greenland's not for sale: climate change
Q: Why is Greenland important to you from a climate perspective?
Greenland is critical due to its ice store and its potential for global sea level rise, and it holds valuable climate information within the ice cores.
If you hate plastic, here’s what you can do about it
Q: What does that mean? How about giving money to all of our schools so they can install dish washing equipment and buy real dishes?
Giving funding for schools to reduce plastic use through reusables is essential for change, especially in communal settings.
If you hate plastic, here’s what you can do about it
Q: How did we get to this point where plastic is just so pervasive in our daily lives?
Nearly half of all plastic ever created has been only since the year 2007, primarily due to hydrofracking and the use of toxic chemicals in production.
