  • October 19th episode

I am a big fan of What on Earth - love the staff and that it’s on CBC. The re-freezing arctic ice piece was interesting and inciteful and re-hearing Patti Gonia’s interview was beautiful and also timely as I’ve just discovered Yo Yo Ma’s new podcast with WNYC Our Common Nature - maybe you’ve already got him lined up for future episode - keep up the great work.

Outdoor skating rinks are on thin ice
Q: Randy, what's the difference, do you think, between skating on an indoor rink and going on an outdoor rink?
Outdoor ice has a unique freedom and texture that makes skating feel special; the ice quality and environment matter a lot for the experience, and the sense of connection to the community is a key part of it.
Does a military upgrade mean a climate downgrade?
Q: What is going on in the Arctic right now in terms of defense and climate?
The Arctic is becoming more strategically relevant due to a warming climate; there are risks from geopolitical competition, but the most urgent threat remains climate change itself, which affects infrastructure and security readiness.
