  • Liberal Propaganda

Jaime is a well spoken host but when it comes to politics, she is unapologetically left leaning, so much that I would consider this podcast legitimate propaganda for the Liberal government. I guess that’s what you get when CBC is funded by the Liberals. This show has a way to spin even the smallest of accomplishments by Pierre Pollievre and the conservatives into failures in an attempt to mislead voters. The fear rhetoric they push is obvious and exhausting. If you’re looking to listen to unbias... more

Quick reminder: an « underaged women » (11min05) doesn’t exist. It’s a girl. A CHILD. Come on CBC, that’s child abusers language 101!

  • More women experts

I find most of the topics relevant and informative. However, I wonder why almost all of the guests are men. While I enjoy these discussions, I think it would be interesting to invite a female expert for some of these topics.

  • Half good half dangerous

I like much of the coverage but don’t appreciate hearing interviewees that try to pull the wool over our eyes regarding the genocide in Palestine. It’s really hard on the heart and disillusioning 😭

  • Decent news podcast, quality varies depending on guest

This show has a few things going for it:

- Decent coverage of major headlines of the week, in a timely manner. (Would prefer less US coverage in favour of more Canadian coverage though, considering this is CBC)
- Episodes are short and to the point, and usually cover the main important things to know about the story

A big shortcoming of the show is the host, Jayme Poisson. The quality of the episode relies heavily on the guest because Jayme herself does not really know the topic of discussion ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Iran’s allies and foes, explained
Q: So as I mentioned in the intro, by the time that people are listening to this, we'll be into day 10 of the war. But you and I are talking on Sunday afternoon, and just big picture, where would you say the war stands right now?
The conflict is turning into a test of wills, a war of attrition with both sides having completed initial high-priority targets and moving into broader measures that strike at economic and military infrastructure, suggesting a long and costly engagement with no immediate resolution.
Iran war sparks energy crisis
Q: What options exist to reopen the Strait or mitigate disruption?
Historically, the US has escorted ships in convoys and used strategic petroleum reserves; scenarios include increased supply from reserves, potential targeted actions, and policy shifts to encourage continued export through alternative routes, though risks and escalation are real.
Iran war sparks energy crisis
Q: How significant is the Strait of Hormuz?
It is a critical chokepoint; its closure would disrupt a large portion of global oil and LNG supply, with direct spillovers to prices and inflation, particularly for import-reliant economies.
War on Iran
Q: How does the regime structure adapt to decapitation and what does that mean for Iran's ability to wage war or suppress its population?
Nasr discusses the Islamic Republic's survivable, decentralized power network that allows decision-making across various institutions, meaning that even without the supreme leader, the regime can continue to operate and mobilize resources, though such events may still create volatility and leadership uncertainty.
War on Iran
Q: What did you make of the fact that he was located and killed in his compound instead of a safe house?
Nasr explains this as a surprising but deliberate indication that the regime anticipated imminent attack and wanted to avoid a bunker scenario, signaling a martyrdom narrative and a belief that the system could absorb such a strike without collapsing.
