American politics, Canadian context. Every Wednesday, CBC Washington correspondents Paul Hunter, Katie Simpson and Willy Lowry sit down to talk through the big stories in the U.S. — and to answer the question: what does this mean for Canada? It's unscripted, smart analysis from reporters with a foot in both countries, and a press pass to the White House.

Your DC insiders seem clueless. What bubble are they living in? You cannot move freely in the US without thinking about gun violence. Get out on the streets and ask some people. It’s kind of your job. Or, would you rather spend your time in ballrooms? The US is grinding down women, people of color, religious minorities, and the queer community. Violence and guns are involved. Wake up! And please sponsor me for asylum in Canada.
I’m an American with a great appreciation for our neighbors to the north. We have so much in common, but with different perspectives. Listening to this podcast provides a way to hear a larger and alternative perspective that we Americans need to be exposed to. The reporters are bright, concise, and fun to listen to. I highly recommend it.
Thanks so much- informative and an interesting listen.
Just a short review but this is fast becoming my favourite new politics show. Simpson, Lowry, and Hunter have great chemistry and are all professionals whose reporting I already respected. Not to be too hyperbolic but I do genuinely feel some concern for Canuckleheads in the wilds of Washington reporting from the front lines of a let’s call it, a compromised democracy. It’s a great show. Considering the volatile news cycles these days, if feasible two a week shows would be great if they’re avai... more

The show provides a Canadian lens on American politics, pairing three CBC Washington-based reporters as they unpack the week's biggest U.S. stories and translate them for Canadian audiences. Episodes mix sharp analysis with on-the-ground reporting, field anecdotes, and candid newsroom discussions, often examining how U.S. developments ripple into Canada. A standout trait is the reporters' bidirectional perspective—rooted in Washington access but anchored in a Canadian viewpoint—making it especially useful for listeners who want context on how U.S. events affect Canada and North American relations. The format tends to be conversational, with a blend of hard analysis and behind-the-scenes color that can feel like desk-side briefing from a tru... more
