  • Truly wonderful show

I appreciate this show so much. I hate being associated with Israel just because I’m Jewish. This Institute is doing incredible work. Thank you!

  • Disgusting antisemitic drivel

These low lives are trying to turn their hobby into a job. FYI Zionism means the right of Jewish people to live in their ancient homeland. There was never a Nakba - it was a failed war of Arab Jihadi rapists (oh well some things do not change).

Israel is a beacon of light in a dark jihadi ME. Terrorists are despicable sub humans.

  • Nothing ‘critical’ about this sorry mess

I swear each episode gets less ‘critical’ than the next. This is a bunch of comfortable western academics agreeing with and congratulating each other. The fact that it calls itself “Critical” almost seems like self-parody. So the lowdown is, of every country in the world, the one Jewish one where 47% of the world’s Jews live, including the overwhelming majority of Middle Eastern and African Jews, is so evil that it must be destroyed. All others are fine. You won’t hear any guests disagree or off... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

In Flames: On Anti-Anti-Zionism with Sean Malloy & Emmaia Gelman
Q: How does this development affect the study and promotion of anti-Zionism in academia?
The guests argue that anti-Zionism is becoming more mainstream and that scholars and activists need a clear framework to articulate what anti-Zionism is, to prevent co-option by anti-Semitic or nationalist narratives, and to ensure sustained, principled critique.
In Flames: On Anti-Anti-Zionism with Sean Malloy & Emmaia Gelman
Q: Sean, what are the takeaways for a listener? Why do people need to know about this and what should they do about it?
The episode suggests listeners should stay vigilant about new strains within the Zionist ecosystem, continue critically analyzing Zionism, and resist letting right-wing or sensationalized narratives define anti-Zionism, while grounding discussions in anti-racism and anti-colonial ideas.
Empire’s Laboratory: ‏الأرض اللي بطعمي The land that feeds
Q: Could you elaborate on how agriculture played into the broader argument about Zionism and land in this context?
Danya explains that agricultural technologies were used both as tools of settler colonization and as a way to mobilize control over land, labor, and markets, with kibbutzim acting as testing grounds for modern techniques that were then exported to other regions, including Guatemala. These practices often excluded indigenous communities from benefits while enabling dispossession.
Empire’s Laboratory: Palestine has always been a global phenomenon
Q: How did Latin American contexts shape Palestinian nationalism and solidarity?
In Latin America, Palestinian communities used petitions and newspapers to articulate a right to belonging and to return, while assimilation dynamics and class structures influenced how they connected with homeland politics and with other immigrant groups.
Empire’s Laboratory: Palestine has always been a global phenomenon
Q: What are the broader implications of your argument about transnational Palestinian identity?
Nadim argues that Palestinian political consciousness emerged across borders, challenging older, geographically bounded myths and reframing the history of Palestinian national thought as a global process influenced by law, migration, and transnational communities.
