  • Truly wonderful show

I appreciate this show so much. I hate being associated with Israel just because I’m Jewish. This Institute is doing incredible work. Thank you!

  • Disgusting antisemitic drivel

These low lives are trying to turn their hobby into a job. FYI Zionism means the right of Jewish people to live in their ancient homeland. There was never a Nakba - it was a failed war of Arab Jihadi rapists (oh well some things do not change).

Israel is a beacon of light in a dark jihadi ME. Terrorists are despicable sub humans.

  • Nothing ‘critical’ about this sorry mess

I swear each episode gets less ‘critical’ than the next. This is a bunch of comfortable western academics agreeing with and congratulating each other. The fact that it calls itself “Critical” almost seems like self-parody. So the lowdown is, of every country in the world, the one Jewish one where 47% of the world’s Jews live, including the overwhelming majority of Middle Eastern and African Jews, is so evil that it must be destroyed. All others are fine. You won’t hear any guests disagree or off... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

In Flames: APA Resolution with Barry Trachtenberg, Lara Sheehi, & Jordan Dunn
Q: Now that the resolution has passed, what comes next for implementation and broader organizing?
The focus shifts to training directors, educating graduate students and professionals about the implications, and ensuring nonviolent political speech is protected, while stakeholders work to publicly affirm the position and build supportive infrastructure within the APA and allied organizations.
In Flames: APA Resolution with Barry Trachtenberg, Lara Sheehi, & Jordan Dunn
Q: What did it actually take to get the new resolution passed, and what were the major points of contention and compromises?
A coalition of anti-Zionist Jews and allied psychologists forced action by submitting a resolution that drew on multiple definitions of anti-Semitism, aiming to avoid a rigid, potentially misused standard. The process involved compromises to ensure broad acceptance withinAPA's structure and to prevent the IRA from having unilateral authority.
In Flames: APA Resolution with Barry Trachtenberg, Lara Sheehi, & Jordan Dunn
Q: In the 19 years between the 2007 resolution and the 2026 revision, how was that resolution felt by members?
The 2007 resolution largely sat in the background, mobilizing mainly when Palestine issues became more visible on listservs; over time, a broader coalition grew to challenge the status quo and push for a reconfiguration that reflects current realities.
In Flames: On Anti-Anti-Zionism with Sean Malloy & Emmaia Gelman
Q: How does this development affect the study and promotion of anti-Zionism in academia?
The guests argue that anti-Zionism is becoming more mainstream and that scholars and activists need a clear framework to articulate what anti-Zionism is, to prevent co-option by anti-Semitic or nationalist narratives, and to ensure sustained, principled critique.
In Flames: On Anti-Anti-Zionism with Sean Malloy & Emmaia Gelman
Q: Sean, what are the takeaways for a listener? Why do people need to know about this and what should they do about it?
The episode suggests listeners should stay vigilant about new strains within the Zionist ecosystem, continue critically analyzing Zionism, and resist letting right-wing or sensationalized narratives define anti-Zionism, while grounding discussions in anti-racism and anti-colonial ideas.
