  • Important!

There's a genuine warmth and sense of caring on this podcast that is quite scarce in the political 'landscape' today.

Both the hosts Breht and Alison are great and sometimes disagree on points but in a way that shows us we don't have to be puritanical in our beliefs, there's still a chance to come together despite small disagreements as we all have that shared sense of the need for a better world for all of us; this podcast is a part of a better world for sure ❤️

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Bullock: Chronicles of Deprivation and Despair in an American Prison
Q: What can readers do to get involved or help address these conditions?
People can join or support local organizing groups, write to lawmakers, arrange book discussions, and participate in campaigns that push for oversight and reform; even simple acts like sending books or letters can provide lifelines to imprisoned individuals.
Bullock: Chronicles of Deprivation and Despair in an American Prison
Q: What role do mental health and prisoner welfare play in the daily life inside Bullock?
Mental health issues are pervasive and worsened by the environment; the facility is not a true mental health institution but a place where conditions exacerbate trauma, sleep deprivation, and vulnerability, with little professional support.
Bullock: Chronicles of Deprivation and Despair in an American Prison
Q: Why did you choose Bullock Prison in Union Springs for the focus of your investigation?
Bullock is representative of a broader pattern: extreme overcrowding, violence, and a crumbling system; it was accessible for firsthand reporting and reveals issues common across facilities, not an isolated case.
Bullock: Chronicles of Deprivation and Despair in an American Prison
Q: For listeners who haven't read the book, what is Bullock about in the simplest terms and why did you feel it needed to be written now?
Bullock chronicles six months inside Bullock Prison, illustrating overcrowding, deteriorating infrastructure, and the daily struggles of prisoners, told through interviews and reporting to show the human impact and systemic neglect; the book aims to spur action and awareness given the ongoing decay of the carceral system.
Unequal Exchange: The Engine of Modern Imperialism
Q: What is the strategy from here going forward for anti-imperialist movements and socialist transitions, given the analysis of unequal exchange and the move toward a multipolar world?
The strategy must center the declining imperial core and support de-linking and the development of South–South trade, while pushing for a universal socialist framework that transcends nationalism, builds solidarity across borders, and avoids war through coordinated anti-imperialist organizing and economic diversification.
