  • Important!

There's a genuine warmth and sense of caring on this podcast that is quite scarce in the political 'landscape' today.

Both the hosts Breht and Alison are great and sometimes disagree on points but in a way that shows us we don't have to be puritanical in our beliefs, there's still a chance to come together despite small disagreements as we all have that shared sense of the need for a better world for all of us; this podcast is a part of a better world for sure ❤️

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Unequal Exchange: The Engine of Modern Imperialism
Q: What is the strategy from here going forward for anti-imperialist movements and socialist transitions, given the analysis of unequal exchange and the move toward a multipolar world?
The strategy must center the declining imperial core and support de-linking and the development of South–South trade, while pushing for a universal socialist framework that transcends nationalism, builds solidarity across borders, and avoids war through coordinated anti-imperialist organizing and economic diversification.
Unequal Exchange: The Engine of Modern Imperialism
Q: Marx's framework views value as created by labor; what does Marx's framework help us see that mainstream economics usually misses about wealth creation and distribution globally?
Marx shows that value is created by labor and nature, not just innovation or capital, and that exchange value is tied to social labor time; this allows us to see how exploitation and redistribution occur through wage differentials and production realities across borders, which mainstream macroeconomics tends to obscure.
Unequal Exchange: The Engine of Modern Imperialism
Q: When you use the term Unequal Exchange, what exactly do you mean, kind of in plain language, assuming some people aren't totally aware of what that concept means?
Unequal Exchange refers to the way prices on the world market reflect wages that are much lower in the Global South than in the Global North, so that workers in high-wage countries consume more value than they produce, with the surplus siphoned to the imperial core and used to sustain higher living standards there.
Western Marxism and The Imperial Theory Industry
Q: I'm wondering if you just have any opening thoughts on the situation in Venezuela and maybe how it relates to your work more broadly.
It's a horrific occurrence, of course, with an intensification of U.S. imperialism and its more openly fascistic orientation with less and less of the liberal cover. The intelligence services function hand in glove with the bourgeois cultural apparatus or the larger system of cultural production and dissemination and consumption.
[BEST OF 2025] From Reagan to Trump: Neoliberalism, Class War, and American Decadence
Q: What can people do to fight against neoliberal domination inside of this nation?
Everybody has a role to play. Organizing, political education, and a transformation away from individualism towards community and collective well-being are essential.
