  • No ... I already miss you guys.

No ... I already miss you guys. I wanted to take a moment to thank you both for the high-quality content that you've put out to the world and your willingness to share your personal journeys.

Enjoy the break and will be waiting for the next update.

During the pause, I would highly recommend anyone who finds this show to check out the back catalog. This is not the typical FI/FIRE content; Eric and Jason put the "personal" in personal finance.

  • Love this Podcast!!

This review is long overdue. I have listened to many Financial Independence podcasts and I have learned so much about FIRE.

Two sides of FI was exactly what I needed when I found out about this podcast.

It is very informative, educational and entertaining. Two close friends talking about where they are in their FI journey. No forced or fake laughter, two buddies talking about how they’ve navigated through their decisions with honesty love and humor. I appreciate the show and have learned a ton.... more

  • Refreshing perspectives

I’m working my way through the catalogue from day 1 and it has been a super interesting and relatable journey. Far from retiring myself, currently one of those who are not sure if retiring early is my goal, but these conversations really bring to light some of the lesser talked about challenges of the FIRE journey. I like the chemistry between Jason and Eric and looking forward to seeing how the journey continues!

How Much Can You Really Spend in Retirement?
Q: Why is the CAPE-based target withdrawal so much higher than the fixed safe consumption rate, especially when the CAPE is high?
That 3.96 is saying, you can do this, you should be able to do this forever and be okay because we've already accounted for all of the gyrations that have happened historically. The CAPE-adjusted one is higher because it reflects the current environment.
How Much Can You Really Spend in Retirement?
Q: Why does my safe consumption rate, SCR, go down when I add supplemental cash flows, which is essentially income? Shouldn't it go up?
It should not because the tool knows about the fact that, well, you've told it, you've made this extra income. And so it's going to offset your withdrawals from the portfolio by the same amount.
What No One Tells You About Purpose and Happiness in Retirement
Q: Can you explain how to identify purpose anchors?
Identify what you regret not doing, revisit joys from childhood, and recognize what you love in your current job or explore new experiences to spark interest.
