  • Bill talks too much

I find the show topics good but Bill continues to talk more and more. I find that he speaks 85% of the time compared to 10% for the guest and 5% forJackie. Please just ask better questions and let your guest answer. It will make for a much better podcast.

  • Let the guest speak!

I have been a long time listener and I have more recently noticed that Bill tends to talk more than the actual guest. His lofty language, references, personal takes on the content are frequently long winded and privileged point of view that are honestly distracting. I wish he would just practice more listening than talking. I now usually fast forward when Bill speaks. Go write a book if you have so much to say. Most of it just isn’t helpful but his ego about his FI journey. A real turn off f... more

How to Retire Sooner and Spend More: Risk-Based Guardrails Explained | Aubrey Williams | 216
Q: So Aubrey, how should people think about withdrawal when they reach FI and are planning their withdrawal strategy?
The approach is to model spending with guardrails, incorporate future income streams, and stress-test against historical downturns so you know when to adjust rather than sticking rigidly to a flat, inflation-indexed withdrawal.
Why You Should Stop Beating Yourself Up for Starting Late | "How To Money" Crossover | 215
Q: Is it possible to go too hard in trying to make up for lost time, and how should someone pace themselves?
Bill emphasizes balance and a phased transition, recommending a sustainable savings rate (around 25-40%), gradual downshifting from high work hours to a more balanced life, and prioritizing time and health alongside money.
Why You Should Stop Beating Yourself Up for Starting Late | "How To Money" Crossover | 215
Q: How do you think about debt payoff versus investing as a late starter?
The strategy is to raise the savings rate aggressively while managing debt; pay off high-interest debt first, keep emergency funds, and progressively shift funds toward investments, using straightforward, diversified approaches and a lifecycle plan.
Borderless FI: Starting Over At 37 After Divorce | Bronwyn Candish | 212
Q: Take us back to your origin story with money for us, please.
Bronwyn describes a childhood of budgeting constraints, scarcity, and a strong drive to build wealth, which shaped her later path into accounting and FI. She explains how early exposure to thrift and budget-mindedness planted an entrepreneurial mindset and curiosity in money management.
20 Questions from 20-Somethings About Money | Dr. DeLong, Emilie Stewart. Britton Carver | 208
Q: What happens when you switch jobs with respect to a 401(k), and what should you do with the old balance?
Leave it where it is if possible, roll it over to a new employer's plan if accepted, or roll into an individual IRA for control; avoid cashing out due to taxes and penalties.
