  • Keep up the good work!

Have listened to all of your episodes. The latest with Drs Frank Galgano and David Stuckenberg did a great job of pointing out the uncertain access or lack of access to adequate and clean water for billions of people around the world. Can you do more episodes focussed on water issues in other parts of the world? We in North America need to have a broader understanding of life in other countries.

  • Good take on Critical Issues

I’m not in the “water field” but as architect there is some overlap yet I have found very interesting discussions here on issues that are very important to society but not getting much attention. The host has a good range of guests from government, industry and consulting who are real hands on experts. The host is also knowledgeable therefore asks good questions.

(I only found about this by accident (from a relative of the host) but have listened to it since then.)

Thanks for the amazing convo with Alaina Harkness of Current. You make it all so easy to understand! I no longer feel like “I don’t know enough” to care about/get involved with water/environmental issues.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Innovative Water Conservation Plan Reporting with Austin Water’s Kevin Kluge
Q: Can you talk about the importance of forward-looking metrics as juxtaposed with rear-view metrics and what each set is designed to do?
Forward-looking metrics such as rebates and pipe replacements act as levers to influence the future GPCD outcomes, while rear-view metrics like GPCD show the past performance. Together they guide proactive decision-making and enable measurement of progress toward long-term goals.
Enhanced Regulatory Compliance through Digitalization with Laura Underwood
Q: How does data digitization affect collaboration among different teams within a utility?
Digitization aligns field staff, quality managers, and operators around a single data source, enabling coordinated decision-making, improved process controls, and better responses to regulatory requirements across departments.
Enhanced Regulatory Compliance through Digitalization with Laura Underwood
Q: What makes a digital compliance system worth the investment, especially for smaller utilities?
Even smaller utilities can benefit by moving away from spreadsheets to structured, cloud-based solutions that reduce manual data entry, improve visibility, and lower the risk of violations; the long-term savings and efficiency gains justify the transition.
Enhanced Regulatory Compliance through Digitalization with Laura Underwood
Q: Can you talk about the regulatory changes your customers are facing and what that means for utility operations?
Regulatory changes like PFAS standards and revisions to the lead and copper rule increase sampling complexity, drive up analysis costs, and demand more robust documentation; utilities must adapt with better data organization, validation, and integrated systems to manage compliance while maintaining operations.
The World of Premium Waters with Michael Mascha
Q: Could you explain what terroir is and how it affects water flavor?
Terroir describes how the earth and geological journey impart minerals to water, meaning the same source can taste different depending on soil, rock type, and how long water sits in the ground, which creates varying flavors and textures.
