  • Keep up the good work!

Have listened to all of your episodes. The latest with Drs Frank Galgano and David Stuckenberg did a great job of pointing out the uncertain access or lack of access to adequate and clean water for billions of people around the world. Can you do more episodes focussed on water issues in other parts of the world? We in North America need to have a broader understanding of life in other countries.

  • Good take on Critical Issues

I’m not in the “water field” but as architect there is some overlap yet I have found very interesting discussions here on issues that are very important to society but not getting much attention. The host has a good range of guests from government, industry and consulting who are real hands on experts. The host is also knowledgeable therefore asks good questions.

(I only found about this by accident (from a relative of the host) but have listened to it since then.)

Thanks for the amazing convo with Alaina Harkness of Current. You make it all so easy to understand! I no longer feel like “I don’t know enough” to care about/get involved with water/environmental issues.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Developing Tomorrow’s Water Workforce with NAWC’s Rob Powelson
Q: Could you give us a thumbnail on why NAWC chose to engage in this workforce study now?
The decision stems from lessons learned during the pandemic, demographic shifts, and a clear recognition that the industry will face critical workforce shortages. The goal was to benchmark, understand the age and skill gaps, and provide actionable strategies to recruit, train, and retain workers through partnerships with schools, trade programs, and workforce boards.
The High Tech Partnership That’s Saving Water with Xylem’s Austin Alexander
Q: How did the partnership with Amazon in Monterrey and Mexico City come together?
Amazon sought water stewardship investments to offset its water demand; Xylem had embedded Vue Digital Solutions with established relationships with utilities, creating a fit for using AWS/Amazon's funding to reduce non-revenue water in those cities.
The High Tech Partnership That’s Saving Water with Xylem’s Austin Alexander
Q: What is the background of Xylem's AI leadership and how does it fit with the company's mission?
Xylem is a water technology company that wants to bring the latest technology to deliver water security; AI is being integrated into both external customer-facing solutions and Xylem's internal transformation to stay at the forefront of how their work is done.
The World Cup and Water’s Cyber-Preparedness Opportunity with 1898 & Co.’s Victor Atkins
Q: What should utilities be doing?
Utilities need to prepare themselves for heightened cyber risk during the World Cup by linking up with state and local security responders and practicing internal emergency response plans.
The Next Generation of Water Treatment with VVater’s Kevin Gast
Q: Do you see your technology as one day displacing chlorine for water utilities?
Kevin believes there will be a natural progression where chemical disinfection is phased out in favor of electric field technologies.
