Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ask Dr. Hall: Your Plastic Surgery Questions Answered Part 2 (Ep. 95)
Q: Do you prefer drains or drainless tummy tucks?
Both options are used; drainless tummy tucks are preferred when there is less liposuction, but drains are still used when extensive liposuction is performed to prevent seroma.
Ask Dr. Hall: Your Plastic Surgery Questions Answered Part 2 (Ep. 95)
Q: Why is it so hard to get insurance coverage for skin removal after bariatric surgery?
Insurance companies prioritise premiums and do not view excess skin as a medical problem in many cases, making coverage difficult unless there are functional issues like rashes or movement restrictions, which then requires hoops like physical therapy and hospital treatment.
Ask Dr. Hall: Your Plastic Surgery Questions Answered Part 2 (Ep. 95)
Q: What age is too young for a facelift?
The key takeaway is that age is less important than anatomy; candidates can be in their 20s to 80s depending on facial structure, with most patients typically considering a facelift in their 50s to 60s.
Dr. Jessica Walker: Tummy Tucks, Body Confidence & Finding Her Calling Pt. 1 (Ep. 99)
Q: What is the big deal with the muscle repair?
Dr. Walker explains that the fascia, not just the muscle, is key because pregnancy stretches the fascia and the uterus, and the fascia does not snap back, leading to diastasis that must be addressed during tummy tuck or abdominoplasty to restore core support and pre-baby contour.
RibXcar, Rib Remodeling, and the Risk of Chasing a Smaller Waist with Dr. Jessica Walker (Ep. 115)
Q: What are the main risks and how do you select suitable patients?
Risks include pneumothorax, vessel and nerve injury, and improper healing; suitable patients typically have a short torso-to-hip distance, are compliant with wearing postoperative garments, and understand the long-term implications.
