This is a great podcast as a middle school athlete. It helps a lot and it is fun to listen to the stories from some of the athletes.

  • Wish i had know about this sooner

This podcast is a great tool for parents trying to navigate youth sports and best support their kids. These guys have a passion for helping and it so beneficial to hear both a ‘been there’ and ‘going through it’ perspective. I really wish i had heard what they had to say about 10 years ago, it would made thing a bit easier than learning it the hard way. Thanks Brad, Britt & Jeff - keep up the great work!

  • Wealth of knowledge

We absolutely love this podcast. It is a wealth of knowledge for parents raising youth athletes. In fact… many of the episodes we have our 10th grade baseball player listen to. This podcast is very grounding + insightful into what it takes to go all the way + to stay balanced in body, mind + spirit in who you are on the journey.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

173. The State of Youth Sports with Aspen Institute's Project Play Director Tom Farrey
Q: What are the three biggest issues facing youth sports today?
The biggest issues include a lack of understanding among parents about age-appropriate play, a push toward early specialization despite evidence supporting multi-sport development, and the need for better advocacy and education so parents can demand safer, more child-centered environments and better coaching.
172. Will Summer Fun Set My Kid Back in Sports? ASK US ANYTHING #1
Q: Summer is approaching and I want my 13-year-old to have normal summer experiences like camps, but I'm worried about missing two weeks of sport and his big goals.
The guests explain a balanced approach: take a break to be a kid, but keep a structured plan that includes key training blocks. Some families use camps that mix league play with high-level training, ensuring there is time for rest and recovery without sacrificing long-term development.
165. NBC Sports' Lindsay Czarniak: From Sport Anchor to Sports Mom
Q: What is the thing no one tells you about covering the Olympics?
The thing no one tells you is the importance of camaraderie within a broadcast team, because everyone from producers to interns must work seamlessly and genuinely care about each other to deliver high-quality storytelling under intense pressure.
161. Reducing Injuries, Minimizing Pain, & Enhancing Performance in Young Athletes with Dr. Michael Hatrak
Q: Can you share a patient success story that illustrates the approach?
Joel, a 15-year-old baseball player, avoided Tommy John surgery after hip-pelvis-leg-length adjustments and targeted elbow work, demonstrating how non-surgical corrections can enable return to sport.
161. Reducing Injuries, Minimizing Pain, & Enhancing Performance in Young Athletes with Dr. Michael Hatrak
Q: How much can speed and performance be improved through biomechanical interventions, and when is the best time to start?
Performance improvements come from optimizing ground contact, proprioception, and hip/pelvis alignment. Starting earlier, including puberty, is beneficial, but improvements can be seen at later stages too through targeted speed-prep programs and continued biomechanical balance work.
