  • Narcissistic Middle Years!?

The fact that you use a time of life this way shows a complete lack of empathy for these challenged kids. Check yourself. Despicable - this is not the way you handle this age group. Shame on you for not seeing kids, only frustrated parents.

  • Grateful for the thoroughness and thoughtfulness your pour into each episode !!

Your season of enneagram research/interviews was so incredibly helpful. The way you organized first the general session of the type/number and then followed it with the interview of a parent of that type was genius. I listened to it alone, with my husband and then alone again to get out all of the valuable nuggets of information. I learned so many new things that I had never before knew about the enneagram and how it intersects/affects parenting. Thank you for the amazing work you guys do!! It... more

  • Great podcast, but the ads!

It’s a great podcast, I’ll give them that. The ads, however - are unbearable. Forced, fake, and sound like they are written by AI. Be ready to use that 30 sec forward button!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 370: From Trauma to Regulation to Resilience with Neurobiologist Dr. Bruce Perry
Q: For any parent trying to understand differences between stress, adversity, and trauma, what are the key distinctions they should keep in mind?
The guest clarifies that stress is a normal, even necessary part of development, whereas distress is excessive stress that can hinder learning; trauma involves prolonged activation and lasting changes to the stress system, and regulation strategies can transform stress into resilience.
Episode 370: From Trauma to Regulation to Resilience with Neurobiologist Dr. Bruce Perry
Q: And we would love for you to talk about how you define trauma in a way that helps parents and professionals both hold the term with clarity and respect, and why misusing the word matters.
Dr. Perry explains that trauma should be viewed through a physiological and developmental lens, focusing on the activation and pattern of the stress-response system over time rather than only labeling an event, which helps tailor supports rather than pathologize experiences.
Episode 361: The 5 Principles of Parenting with Dr. Aliza Pressman
Q: What encouragement would you offer to overwhelmed parents aiming to raise capable kids?
You are a good enough parent; small, consistent efforts over time yield benefits, and aiming for progress over perfection reduces pressure and builds healthier dynamics.
Episode 361: The 5 Principles of Parenting with Dr. Aliza Pressman
Q: What actually builds resilience and capability in kids over time?
A framework of games, gratitude, autonomy, motivation, empathy, and self-regulation, supported by warm relationships and appropriate boundaries; adults guide and scaffold as needed to help children grow.
Episode 361: The 5 Principles of Parenting with Dr. Aliza Pressman
Q: Would you give us a brief overview of the five principles and why you chose them?
They are rooted in developmental science, not trends, and are highly linked with resilience; the adult controls them, and they frame how to support a child through connection, reflection, regulation, setting safe rules, and repairing when missteps occur.
