  • Youth Inc. LOVE

Love Greg Olsen, I was a huge fan when he played on the Panthers! Lately I am the parent to an athlete, he’s 8 and some coaches treat them like they are 18. I really appreciate the insights Greg provides.

  • True Development

One of the most informative youth sports podcasts. The conversations are real and focused on developing young athletes into people first, with both short term and long term growth in mind. Parents and coaches should listen.

  • Listen to some pro athletes tell you how they know how to make your kid a youth sports star & how the only person holding your kid back from future stardom is you. This stuff was discredited decades ago.

A bit alarming how good the reviews are.

  • Good info

Really great information. Sound mix for the podcasts is terrible. Very uneven and I find myself raising and lowering the volume throughout.

Thanks Greg for this info. Great insight and information on navigating the physical/mental aspects of raising kids in sports. It can be difficult for all involved within the family. Also, lifelong Panther fan raising my boys as Cat’s fans here in TN. Keep up the good work.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Inside the League Changing Women's Volleyball w/ Courtney Thompson & Lexi Rodriguez
Q: Is conditioning used as a punishment in youth sports, and at what age is that appropriate?
I believe in building endurance and toughness through purposeful, well-organized practice rather than mindless conditioning, using sport-specific drills and play to develop resilience without breaking players down.
Inside the League Changing Women's Volleyball w/ Courtney Thompson & Lexi Rodriguez
Q: You coach your own kids—what is one thing you do as a dad coach that you know is wrong, but you just can't stop doing?
I coach them hard to maintain the trust and respect of the other families, but I balance that with clear boundaries and communicate that I prioritize being their dad while also holding them to high standards as an athlete.
Inside the League Changing Women's Volleyball w/ Courtney Thompson & Lexi Rodriguez
Q: What would you tell that nine year old young girl who is driving with her mom and sister to a game about volleyball and pursuing the sport?
I would tell her to trust the process, that everyone's journey is different, and that success comes from the work she puts in and enjoying the ride rather than comparing herself to others.
Derek Anderson: From Sleeping in Project Housing to Winning an NBA Title
Q: What is the most effective way to engage parents in supporting their child's development in youth sports?
Hold them accountable and involve them in the process, making sure they understand the values being taught and encouraging them to reinforce those values at home and with coaches.
ESPN's Chiney Ogwumike on What Parents Get Wrong About Youth Hoops
Q: What's the right age to start talking to kids about goals and the process of improvement?
Focus on the daily process and build good systems; if the end goal isn't reached, the kid should still value the learning and continue improving. Emphasize habits and resilience over fixed outcomes.
