  • Fantastic question!

I’ve always loved soccer, but ended up down the basketball route. I coach high school and haven’t had the opportunity to have some of the discussions but certainly have the same questions often asked here. Jason, you do a great job of asking the things I have often wondered from recruiters to the different ways kids learn and grow in a sport. Fantastic job!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

I Hate Soccer #86 - Scott Duhl, NAIA head women's coach at Madonna University
Q: What's your top priority in the first months at Madonna?
The priorities are twofold: build a foundational team culture with clear rules and professional standards, and start impacting soccer through structured training and development, paving the way for the program's long-term growth.
I Hate Soccer | JAGS Show #1 - Steve Clark, retired MLS professional GK now coaching youth soccer
Q: What were the key factors that helped you sustain a long professional career across multiple countries?
Relentless self-improvement, film study, adaptation to different playing styles, and a willingness to evolve technically and tactically, plus building a strong personal culture and presence.
I Hate Soccer | JAGS Show #1 - Steve Clark, retired MLS professional GK now coaching youth soccer
Q: How did you adapt your goalkeeping technique when you moved from college to pro, and what changed in your approach to training?
I focused on lowering my angles and improving footwork; I studied top goalkeepers, adjusted my training to game-relevant skills, and shifted to prepping for the game rather than just practicing saves.
I Hate Soccer #82 - Gianna Tuzzolino, how she went from ECNL-RL to ECNL to SEC!
Q: What's harder, the two weeks leading up to the season or the spring season itself?
She explains that the two-week pre-season period is exhausting and physically demanding, while spring is more about adaptation and growth into the next fall season.
I Hate Soccer #82 - Gianna Tuzzolino, how she went from ECNL-RL to ECNL to SEC!
Q: Do you think that you want to go pro?
Gianna expresses that there is an interest in going pro but emphasizes taking things one step at a time and focusing on her spring season before making any long-term decisions.
