  • Coach Rory Episode was Amazing

I stumbled into 3four3 because of Coach Rory’s YouTube page, and I’ve found both to be amazing resources for my coaching experiences. I think anyone coaching youth soccer should definitely visit these sites. It has helped me evolve to the modern game of soccer and away from the old methods I was taught in the 80s and 90s.

As a parent to 3 soccer kids, who was never into the sport growing up, I'm getting a ton of great perspective. I highly recommend this to parents and coaches.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 398: Unpacking Pochettino's USMNT Strategy and How Coaches Climb the Soccer Ladder
Q: Do you think that by the time Pochettino, maybe a month or two months into his tenure as a Usmnt job, he kind of already knew the guys that he was potentially going to, like maybe at least 15 to 16 of the roster?
It's likely he had a good idea about the roster but was also exploring other talent options.
Ep 397: LEARN from Luis Suarez, Tryout Strategies, and the Pro/Rel Debate
Q: Should parents move their kids to a more competitive team even if it requires a longer commute?
Yes, especially if the current team lacks proper development opportunities. Being in a more competitive environment can provide valuable experience and insight into the child's potential.
Ep 397: LEARN from Luis Suarez, Tryout Strategies, and the Pro/Rel Debate
Q: What should a coach consider when selecting players in tryouts with limited time?
Coaches should focus on observing players in game situations to assess their awareness, tactical understanding, and overall skills, as well as implementing specific training activities to gauge their ability to adapt to the desired playing style.
Ep 396: MLS Next Initiatives EXPOSED - Playing Time, Talent ID, Scholarship Myths, and More
Q: What are the long-term implications of these initiatives?
In the long run, the monopolistic tendencies of MLS Next will continue to consolidate power, potentially harming the development of young athletes outside their framework.
Ep 396: MLS Next Initiatives EXPOSED - Playing Time, Talent ID, Scholarship Myths, and More
Q: If you have a child in youth soccer, where would you prefer they play?
I'd prefer them to be in an MLS Next team that isn't affiliated with an MLS club to avoid the complicated contract issues that come up with MLS teams.
