  • Must Listen for Soccer Obsessed Parents

If you are a soccer obsessed parent looking for a friend that shares your passion but has the knowledge to create a meaningful, positive impact on your athlete, this podcast is for you. Neil’s calm demeanor helps guide the passion we feel as parents towards individual developmental with accountability and away from yelling from the sidelines or blaming others. Required listening for all parents of players I coach and highly recommended for parents of competitive players.

  • Needs specific skills, drills, examples, stories

Every podcast has the same message- work hard& aquire skills. Got it. That’s why I’m here. I keep skipping through looking for actual help- this is #6 and no specifics. To the podcast creator, listen to Against All Odds, watch Become Elite or 7mlc on YouTube. I think there is absolutely a lack of info towards parents & would like to see the podcast be successful, but it needs more specifics.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Osgood-Schlatter Disease: What Every Soccer Parent Needs to Know | Jason Goumas, Physical Therapist
Q: What practical steps can parents take at home to support a child with OS D before seeking professional care?
Implement proper quad stretching, movement assessments, gradual load management, and strength work focused on the kinetic chain (hips, ankles, core), while monitoring symptoms and avoiding overloading the affected area.
Osgood-Schlatter Disease: What Every Soccer Parent Needs to Know | Jason Goumas, Physical Therapist
Q: What makes youth soccer particularly associated with OS D compared to other sports?
Soccer involves frequent acceleration, deceleration, and directional changes that place repetitive stress on the knee and its growth plates, increasing the chance of irritation during peak growth periods.
Osgood-Schlatter Disease: What Every Soccer Parent Needs to Know | Jason Goumas, Physical Therapist
Q: Can you explain what age OSD typically appears and whether there is a link to growth spurts?
OSD tends to occur during growth spurts when growth plates are active and bones are lengthening; tissues are relatively weaker at these times, making irritation more likely, especially in the knee area where the patellar tendon attaches.
How Anytime Soccer Training Actually Works — Your Questions Answered
Q: I am curious what the QR and FR mean after some of the numbers, and is there a demo of each skill that verbally explains things and gives tips on form?
QR stands for Quick Review, which revisits two moves just practiced, first with a 30-second segment for each move, followed by a longer review later. FR is the Final Review, a comprehensive recap after a block of moves. There is a demonstration of each move, but the emphasis is on the child viewing the move and then applying it with minimal verbal coaching within the video itself; any deeper coaching is expected from the parent during practice.
What Pro Scouts Actually Look For | Chris Robinson, Former Chelsea FC Academy Scout
Q: What is the skill set that a scout brings to the table that a coach might not have after 20 years of coaching?
A scout's edge lies in predicting a player's potential, not just current performance; they look at long-term trajectory and fit for future teams, requiring a broader, future-facing perspective beyond day-to-day coaching decisions.
