Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Are Kids Trying to Make Us Crazy? Why Kids Do Weird Things
Q: How should parents respond when their toddler keeps saying no or engages in biting?
Acknowledge the emotion behind the behavior, explain expectations, and use consistent boundaries; understand that both behaviors reflect emerging autonomy and big feelings, and respond with calm guidance rather than punishment.
Are Kids Trying to Make Us Crazy? Why Kids Do Weird Things
Q: What are FBMs, and why do infants sometimes cough or make sounds that worry parents?
FBMs are funny baby movements that are common and often harmless; parents should look for context, other symptoms, and the child's overall behavior before assuming a medical issue, and pediatricians offer reassurance based on typical development.
Food Allergy, Intolerance, or Something Else? FPIES Explained
Q: Okay, what is your guess about this baby?
The baby was reacting to something in the bottle, not breast milk alone; the culprit turned out to be a food protein in the bottle content, i.e., FPIES triggered by formula.
All in Your Head? POTS: The Diagnosis Doctors Miss
Q: Do you think that COVID is going to have an impact on finding an etiology for POTS?
It's complex; while the SARS-CoV-2 virus shows various effects, it may help give clues about POTS.
All in Your Head? POTS: The Diagnosis Doctors Miss
Q: What triggers the development of POTS?
Infection is probably the number one trigger, but concussions and other factors also play a role.
