  • A new way to understand the world - with hope at the core

Despite not being able to fully comprehend all the concepts being shared - this podcast feels like someone trying to explain to me the secrets of the universe, with patience love and understanding, minus the psychedelics and weird cult vibes. Scientists, researchers, doctors, professors and other scholars explain how trees are a community that talk, learn and help each other, how quantum science helps explain the self, ego and how we are all connected, and many more mind blowing revelations. • Grounded and very hopeful

Thank you so much for these thoughtful and informative interviews. I especially enjoyed the interview with Suzanne Simard mentioning her book, Finding The Mother Tree. I recently read that book and it was inspirational. So grateful that I have found your podcast. In these times of societal and environmental upheaval ideas you are presenting are important to keep us moving toward the possibility of our whole selves connected with every animal, every tree every environment and all humans as one.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Judy Lief: Buddhist Practice in Life and Death
Q: Was there a religious or spiritual texture to your childhood, or is it something you found yourself?
She describes growing up Protestant Christian with curiosity about Christianity, then moving toward Buddhism and how her early questions and leadership experiences shaped her later engagement with spiritual practice.
Judy Lief: Buddhist Practice in Life and Death
Q: What was your first major?
Judy Lief explains her early college shifts across English, sociology, philosophy, and pre-med as a search for meaning and integration, rather than a linear path, ultimately leading to a life in Buddhist teaching and editing.
Jeremy Lent: Ecological Civilization and the End of Extractive Capitalism
Q: Describe the three horizons model and why it matters for moving toward an ecological civilization.
The three horizons model frames transition in three stages: the first horizon keeps lights on within the current system; the second horizon contains disruptive yet still within-the-paradigm shifts (like Tesla) that look promising but may not reach the third horizon; the third horizon represents the fully realized ecological civilization. This model helps ensure actions today build toward that distant but more transformative future rather than getting stuck in incremental upgrades that don't reach the ultimate goal.
John Fullerton: Regenerative Economics and Living Systems Capitalism
Q: How do you envision implementing the Commons as a formal sector?
By creating institutional structures that recognize shared resources and the public value embedded in both natural and digital realms, building governance and accountability to ensure sustainable use, equitable access, and resilience for future generations.
John Fullerton: Regenerative Economics and Living Systems Capitalism
Q: What are the eight principles of regenerative economics, and how do they interact?
They are design principles like in-right relationship, holistic wealth, and empowerment of participation, each intended to function in concert as parts of a single living system; they guide a shift from extraction to regeneration by aligning economic activity with natural patterns and social well-being.
