Michael Pollan’s latest book, A World Appears, is an exploration — with scientists and journalists and technologists and spiritual teachers — of what consciousness is, and is not, or might be: from the plants which have always fascinate... more

On April 4, 1967, Martin Luther King Jr. gave a speech at Riverside Church in New York City called “A Time to Break Silence.” This is often referred to as his “Beyond Vietnam” Speech. His own allies criticized it as a risky departure fr... more

I'm on record bemoaning across the years that “love” is the most watered-down word in the English language. I know that invoking love feels very soft for our hard realms of politics and war. Yet it is an enduring truth that love is the ... more

I was longing for a deep dive on the radiant and common-sense hope that Jason Reynolds embodies after I interviewed him at a Georgetown event last year. I got my chance at the 2025 Aspen Ideas Festival. Jason’s perspective is so urgent ... more

I learn so much and Krista’s voice buoys me up, with her magical method of conversation with so many people from every slice of academic and philosophical and creative life.
I always come back to this podcast when I need a level-headed, grounded, but creative look at the world (and break from the hardships).
That’s it. Turns a frown upside down.
Interesting talk. Though I do have a statement and a comment. First I’m Catholic, not a theologian or Scripture scholar so my perspective is as a follower. I wanted to say that Jesus was born a Jew and followed Judaism he didn’t create a new religion he fulfilled its teachings it wasn’t his opinion he was doing the will of the God we both follow. I do agree with your premise that Judaism as Christianity both are based on love. Thank you for an interesting show.
I love this show. Over the years I have listened to every episode, some have inspired me, some have made me uncomfortable, and some have comforted me during difficult life situations. I am so happy and grateful that there will be a new season. No one does quite what this podcast does, and I have missed the thought provoking and enlightening conversations Krista Tippet and her team create.
This episode carried a quiet reverence that’s hard to create and even harder to sustain. By honouring Jane Goodall’s life through reflection rather than reverence alone, you invited listeners to reconsider humanity as something expressed through care, attention, and responsibility. It felt less like a tribute and more like a gentle call to live with greater conscience and compassion.

A thoughtful, boundary-crossing interview series that threads science, spirituality, poetry, and social healing through conversations with leading thinkers, writers, scientists, and practitioners. Episodes commonly explore big questions about consciousness, meaning, love, justice, and resilience, often tying personal narrative to broader cultural and ethical questions. Notable is the ability to pair rigorous inquiry with intimate storytelling, bringing together perspectives from neuroscience, civil rights, environmentalism, and the arts to illuminate what it means to be human in turbulent times.
