  • He’s come a long way since the Score

Finally: a national podcast network that lets their hosts make their shows their own. Jason is a great representative of smart Chicago sports fandom who can also speak to the national landscape in a way few can. He brings his own sense of humor and life experiences to the pod, making his voice irreplaceable in local media. And the episodes featuring Alex Brown are a guaranteed treat.

  • Jason rules but major audio issues

Content-wise, best Chicago sports pod out there. Jason is great. HOWEVER…there’s so much heavy breathing and extraneous noise in the recording that totally distracts from the conversation. A company like The Ringer/Spotify has the resources for everything to sound good and get that stuff edited out, why does it sound so amateurish? Clean that up and it’s 5 stars.

  • Poor audio

Gotta get an audio engineer. Jason is great, but someone needs to check levels and make sure the mic doesn’t get hit or thrown in the toilet.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

“High Expectations with Xavier Scruggs | Ep. 598
Q: What are you most excited about for the Chicago teams this season?
Xavier emphasizes the Cubs' depth and the continued development of young players, alongside bets on how the White Sox's young pitchers might contribute and bounce back.
“Performing Arts in Cleveland” With Brian Geltzeiler | Ep. 592
Q: How would you have upgraded this Cleveland team if you're looking at what the pistons are?
You may want to make the case that Harden is going to be a better offensive player for this team, but the thing is I feel like you're telling me injecting Harden in here, because I worry about the ball dominance.
“Insufficient Daddying” | Ep. 586
Q: Jay, how do you feel about the way Ben Johnson handled beating the Packers and just the importance of the rivalry to him?
I love it. I appreciate the importance of this rivalry and how it creates a special atmosphere.
“A Whole Lot of Mid” | Ep. 568
Q: When you talk about the Bulls and their roster, how many players do you think will still be on the team in three years?
Possibly only two players might still be there, as many current players could be part of trades or cap flexibility moves.
“The Eternal Optimist” With Dan Devine and Diante Lee | Ep. 565
Q: How do you feel about the first couple of weeks of an NBA season?
Dan believes that can be difficult to gauge team performance until roughly 20 games in, emphasizing that teams need time to find their rhythm and that the early stats may not be indicative of their season-long success.
