  • Popeye’s and Edsel

Hey Luther, download the Popeye’s app. I use it exclusively when I go there these days. I place my order and it’s always ready when I get there 10-15 minutes later. Also have app only specials and rewards points ! Game changer . Also, not a car gal but I am a crossword gal. Edsel is a still a very popular crossword answer more than sixty years after they stopped being made because of friendly letters and no other way to “clue” it. Invariably clued as “flop” or “dud”. Named for Henry Ford’s only... more

  • Could be better

Charlie is at times interesting but he really needs better interlocutors to be engaging. His previous podcast with Kevin Williamson was superior, mostly for what Kevin brought to the table. Charlie engages in some interesting topics but I find it hard to finish these podcasts often even if I listen at 1.5x speed.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 102: All About Gerrymandering — with Sean Trende
Q: Is it possible to outsource redistricting to a computer, or is it just a reflection of the inputs people choose?
Computers can implement rules consistently, but the outcome still depends on the parameters and goals set by map drawers; without clear, constrained rules, the computer will reflect human choices and biases embedded in the input criteria.
Episode 102: All About Gerrymandering — with Sean Trende
Q: So let me start by asking you, at 30,000 feet, what is a gerrymander?
A gerrymander is a practice of drawing congressional districts to give an unfair political advantage to one party, typically by concentrating opposing voters into a few districts or spreading them thinly across many districts to dilute their impact.
Episode 101: Last Branch Standing — with Sarah Isgur
Q: How collegial is the Supreme Court, and is that changing over time?
Isgur discusses the tradition of collegiality and how recent dynamics, including public perception and procedural changes, affect the Court's internal culture and decision-making.
Episode 101: Last Branch Standing — with Sarah Isgur
Q: Let me ask you about the history here.
The host asks about historical tensions between the Court and the presidency, leading Isgur to explain the long arc of constitutional interpretation and how concerns about judicial power have evolved through different eras.
Episode 99: Access and Influence — with Tim Chapman
Q: How do you avoid capture as a think tank?
It requires clarity with donors about not being solely about access and influence, focusing instead on principle-driven public policy.
