  • Dispatch Recap

Glad you did it. In last few months I noticed you have consultants helping you, but it’s obvious you hate it. The state of the dispatch is you’ve been outflanked by other organizations. Bulwark on the left. Free press and NR on the right. You’re a middling mediocre “news” group. Dispatch is just a 1999 opinion staff at the core. Also behind on technology (typical, cc Steve). One thing you could do to increase revenue is offer ad free podcasts and articles per diem (one click on demand, a common ... more

  • Fair political analysis and commentary

If you’re looking for balanced political commentary without sycophant worship, this podcast is for you. If someone does something wrong, they’ll call it out regardless of political affiliation, the way that honest reporting is supposed to work.

  • I love listening to Jonah and his excellent guests. When he has someone on from the more progressive side, they're always thoughtful and engage in fair discussion. Jonah clearly knows his stuff on most topics. Only wish he'd quit making excuses for himself. Sick, tired, frazzled, etc. You're GOOD at what you do, Jonah. No worries!

  • Engaging and fun listen

Enjoyed your conversation with Elliot Williams. You have a great rapport and it made wading through what are typically the partisan minefields actually fun and engaging to listen to!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Men of the 20th Century Lost the Plot | Interview: Andrew Lambert
Q: What are the lessons of the 20th Century?
The lessons point to the need for the U.S. to engage allies not just morally but also physically, as the balance of power has shifted, and failure to adhere to hegemonic principles and demonstrate power can degrade national security.
The Men of the 20th Century Lost the Plot | Interview: Andrew Lambert
Q: Can you explain a little bit if Napoleon was not going to invade England, why the continental system was still directly contrary to Britain's national interest?
Britain could not defeat Napoleon in Europe alone; thus, they had to build a coalition to counter him. The continental system was a massive economic warfare attack on Britain, but because of Britain's control over global trade, the system ultimately weakened Napoleon's influence.
Save Our Universities! | Interview: William Inboden
Q: Is there a place where speech can go beyond acceptable limits and become less an issue of speech and more an issue of right and proper conduct?
Yes, there are instances where speech can infringe upon the rights of others, particularly in educational contexts, and it's critical to establish standards of responsible behavior.
Save Our Universities! | Interview: William Inboden
Q: What's your article about?
It's an effort to understand how did we get to the current moment of turbulence in higher education and propose a constructive way forward.
Politics of Who Rather Than What | Interview: Yuval Levin
Q: How do you view the emergence of anti-Semitism on both sides?
While both sides exhibit anti-Semitic behaviors, the motivations differ, with the left associating Jews with an oppressive elite and the right viewing them as outsiders.
