In “The Remnant," Jonah Goldberg enlists a “Cannonball Run”-style cast of stars, has-beens, and never-weres to address the most pressing issues of the day. Is America doomed? Has liberalism failed? And will mankind ever invent something better than ‘90s-era “Simpsons?” Mixing political history, pop culture, rank punditry, and shameless book-plugging, Goldberg and guests will have the kinds of conv... more

  • Health problems?

At the beginning of most of these podcasts, the host apologizes for feeling ill, lack of sleep, exhaustion from travel, etc. and apologizes to the audience for lack of coherence. I still think the podcasts are good though.

  • Conversation with Don Robby Gould

I thought this deep dive with a serious thinker about what it “should” mean to be an American conservative was one of the most instructive, brain teasing exercises I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy. I heard Jonah very clearly asking a learned elder for basic understanding and affirmation…and he was asking someone he trusted to have answers. And Jonah was right. A great gift to me.

    Thank you

  • Complexity is a subsidy

Helpful may sound bland, but in these bizarre & confusing times, Jonah brought clarity and thoughtfulness to the mess. I would like Jonah to know that there are many people “wired like him”, and may the memory of Miss Gracie be blessed.

  • Critical Thought, Not Brain Rot

In an era when too much political media is designed to inflame, flatter, or exhaust its audience, The Remnant stands out by insisting on something increasingly rare: thinking.

Hosted by Jonah Goldberg, The Remnant is unapologetically cerebral without being pretentious. It assumes listeners are capable of following an argument, sitting with complexity, and resisting the dopamine hit of outrage. Goldberg doesn’t chase the news cycle so much as interrogate it, often stepping back to examine the ph... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

‘Aquavit,’ ‘Zebroid,’ and ‘Haole’ | Interview: Stefan Fatsis
Q: How did they think about their role in political discourse in the moment, right, in political controversies and whatnot?
The politics of the people that run dictionaries tend to be academic, more liberal, and the political part of the discourse over how to define something is really non-existent.

It's about the dictionary, man. It's about the world of language and words and dictionaries in the digital age.
Freedom Hasn’t Always Meant Choice | Interview: Sophia Rosenfeld

The transition can be traced back to 17th and 18th century Europe, influenced by the explosion of trade and commerce and the Reformation, leading up to a modern association of choice with freedom in the 20th century, especially post-World War II.
