And will mankind ever invent something better than ‘90s-era “Simpsons?” Mixing political history, pop culture, rank punditry, and shameless book-plugging, Goldberg and guests will have the kinds of conv... more

  • Still a toothache

Decided to check back in on this pod that I once enjoyed a lot but came to find tiresome. Sadly, Jonah remains an insufferable whiner and gloomy droner.

  • Health problems?

At the beginning of most of these podcasts, the host apologizes for feeling ill, lack of sleep, exhaustion from travel, etc. and apologizes to the audience for lack of coherence. I still think the podcasts are good though.

  • Conversation with Don Robby Gould

I thought this deep dive with a serious thinker about what it “should” mean to be an American conservative was one of the most instructive, brain teasing exercises I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy. I heard Jonah very clearly asking a learned elder for basic understanding and affirmation…and he was asking someone he trusted to have answers. And Jonah was right. A great gift to me.

    Thank you

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Edmund Burke Was Not a Romantic | Interview: Yuval Levin
Q: Can you explain to the layman the difference between reason and rationalism?
The guest explains two competing liberal narratives: one that sees liberalism as a radical, idea-driven project, and another that views liberalism as an evolutionary, tradition-based achievement rooted in English liberties and gradual reforms. This frames Burke as emphasizing conservative restraint and sentiment over abstract, universal reason.
Who Fills the Power Vacuum? | Interview: Ken Pollack
Q: How might regional players react if Iran's regime falls?
Regional actors like Turkey and Saudi Arabia could pursue their own strategic objectives, potentially exploiting the power vacuum, which might include Kurdish protectionism, instability, or reordering alliances; the scenario could also push NATO and Israel to recalibrate their strategies.
Who Fills the Power Vacuum? | Interview: Ken Pollack
Q: Is regime change from the air feasible, and what are the likely consequences after such a move?
The discussion suggests regime change from air power is unlikely to be successful without a ground component and post-conflict stabilization; failure to secure the country after toppling a regime often results in chaos or civil war, as seen in Libya and Iraq, with regional spillover.
Who Fills the Power Vacuum? | Interview: Ken Pollack
Q: What do you think about the administration's motivation for war in Iran?
Ken Pollack argues that while overthrowing a regime could be strategically appealing, the actual historical evidence for successful regime change from air power alone is thin; the lack of a solid post-conflict stabilization plan makes outcomes highly uncertain.
What Should We Want From China? | Interview: Andrew Collier
Q: What would you advise a long-term policy outline for the US-China relationship given Xi's trajectory and the global economy?
Enforce WTO rules on subsidies, push for transparency on subsidies and imports, develop a coherent geopolitical strategy addressing Taiwan and the South China Sea, and build domestic support for workers displaced by globalism, while coordinating with Europe to maintain shared economic and geopolitical interests.
