I've only listened to the introductory episode but Dan + Janice have a really funny dynamic! I saw them give a presentation at IMSH in Orlando in January of 2017 and they we're funny and really informative. I learned a lot about the field of medical simulation listening to them. If you're interested in healthcare, check this out! It's the future of medical training.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Developing an AI Tool that Gets Teams Ready | DTBR #5
Q: How does the Readiness Planning Tool start when a team uses it for a new clinical scenario?
It begins by identifying a situational vulnerability, then generates a draft plan with core readiness needs, potential variations, and initial skills, which the team can customize with inputs from different departments and contexts.
The First Step of Psychological Self-Rescue (with Hans Florine) | Curious Now 35
Q: Hans, can you walk us through a moment when you felt completely off and how you found your way back to safety?
Hans shares a vivid account of a climbing accident where he used practical steps—calling for help, coordinating with his partner, and leveraging present actions—to stabilize and eventually recover, illustrating how staying in the moment can prevent paralysis and escalate toward a successful outcome.
Just Tell Your Learners What to Do! (with Mary Fey) | Curious Now 31
Q: How do you know when to coach rather than teach in a given moment?
I assess the task complexity, the learner's current capabilities, and whether breaking down sub-skills and guiding step-by-step will reduce cognitive load and prevent errors, especially for complex, multi-part motions.
Just Tell Your Learners What to Do! (with Mary Fey) | Curious Now 31
Q: Mary, what do you do to authorize yourself to step into a coaching role with credibility?
I rely on a basic assumption that the learner wants to improve, which gives me an ethical obligation to help them get better through direct guidance, clear expectations, and transparent communication about the coaching relationship.
Debriefing Universal Clinical Struggles (with Bridget Van Gotten) | Curious Now #23
Q: What challenges have you experienced?
Understanding different processing times in classroom management can highlight disparities in learner engagement and fairness.
