Washington's "Grey Ghost" Battles Extinction
Q: What do we do next to really stem the tide of decline?
We need dedicated revenue for habitat restoration. Washington has the expertise and groundwork laid down; we just need the political will and financial backing to scale up restoration efforts.
Washington's "Grey Ghost" Battles Extinction
Q: How would you inspire a non-angler about why it's so important to preserve these fish?
It's about intimacy and love for the wild place. Steelhead represent the beauty and vitality of our ecosystems, emphasizing the need for preserving natural environments.

Q: So Lynda, as I believe you're not actually a regular steelhead angler, what inspired you to tackle this story about our state fish?
I had written a lot about salmon, but not an appreciation of steelhead. I remembered a special trip to the Queets River and felt it was time to highlight the issues they face now, especially with a petition for endangered species listing.
