  • These “thoughts swap” episodes are amazing!

Well, actually they all are. The latest one on “A Drink Is The Only Thing That Helps” was amazing! It’s like the lights were off and I finally found the on switch! Pennies were dropping all over the place! I find myself saving and re-listening to just about every episode. Some I have listened to 4-5 times if not more! Thank you so much Rachel!

465: I wish I could have fun without drinking [Listener Q&A]
Q: Hi Rachel, I love your work and I've learned to view my relationship with alcohol in a different way. I don't feel the need to have drinks in every situation, but the main struggle is going out to bars and drinking is fun. How can I balance this with my fitness goals and finances without missing out on the fun?
The key is understanding that fun doesn't come from drinking; it's created by your engagement and presence. You can still have fun by reducing self-monitoring, shifting your focus outward, and taking small social risks to connect with others. Don't chase a perfect number; instead, interrupt the pattern of self-judgment and name what you're experiencing to redirect your behavior toward more authentic enjoyment.
459: When Dinner Prep Turns Into Drinking [Listener Q&A]
Q: How can I cook without needing wine in the kitchen, and still keep the ritual enjoyable?
The host suggests keeping the ritual but changing one variable, like using a special non-alcoholic drink, reframing the moment to focus on the full sensory experience, and anchoring attention to present-m Moment pleasures such as smell, sounds, and textures to retrain the brain away from needing alcohol for enhanced enjoyment.
457: How do I stop going to the bar in the afternoon? [Listener Q&A]
Q: Do you have any suggestions on how to stop going to the bar in the afternoon?
The key is understanding the need for transition after work and finding alternative ways to decompress that don't involve drinking.
453: Afraid You'll Lose Friends If You Stop Drinking? Listen to This. [Listener Q&A]
Q: Is it possible to just have one drink?
Rachel explains that this question often stems from a desire to manage social anxiety without addressing the underlying inner critic problem.
453: Afraid You'll Lose Friends If You Stop Drinking? Listen to This. [Listener Q&A]
Q: How do you keep very close friends and not come across as boring?
Sean's question is rooted in the worry that his friends will view him differently without alcohol, and it reflects a deeper issue of dealing with his inner critic.
