  • The tools go way beyond drinking!!

Excellent LIFE ADVICE. Rachel presents concepts that will help in all areas of your life, if you apply them. She is so smart, real and honest. Her vulnerability allows you to relate and trust her, and to find her presented truth as self-evident.

  • These “thoughts swap” episodes are amazing!

Well, actually they all are. The latest one on “A Drink Is The Only Thing That Helps” was amazing! It’s like the lights were off and I finally found the on switch! Pennies were dropping all over the place! I find myself saving and re-listening to just about every episode. Some I have listened to 4-5 times if not more! Thank you so much Rachel!

  • grounded but unique 😅

if possible, i’d like to come back and add to my review since i’ve only very recently discovered Rachel’s work/approach… so i’m still connecting the dots of ask this along with doing my own compare/contrast with other ‘similar’

but it all feels genuine and experiential… what i heard today

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

478: I've made so much progress with my drinking. So why doesn't it feel any easier? [Listener Q&A]
Q: Any advice for being in a spot where you listen to podcasts constantly and feel you still have a strong brain pull toward drinking?
Acknowledge the progress that has been made, recognize that there are two kinds of progress—reducing drinking and reducing the need for alcohol in experiences—and shift focus to attention and how the brain forecasts drinking, using mindfulness to observe rather than engage with anticipatory thoughts.
475: What if you just love drinking? [Listener Q&A]
Q: What if you just love drinking, not the taste, but the love of the habit of drinking?
The host reframes the question by encouraging specificity: identify the exact aspects of the experience that are appealing (ritual, connection, relaxation) and recognize these desires are normal human needs. By mapping the broader experiences beyond alcohol, you can satisfy those needs with healthier, non-alcohol contexts while reducing the emphasis on alcohol itself.
465: I wish I could have fun without drinking [Listener Q&A]
Q: Hi Rachel, I love your work and I've learned to view my relationship with alcohol in a different way. I don't feel the need to have drinks in every situation, but the main struggle is going out to bars and drinking is fun. How can I balance this with my fitness goals and finances without missing out on the fun?
The key is understanding that fun doesn't come from drinking; it's created by your engagement and presence. You can still have fun by reducing self-monitoring, shifting your focus outward, and taking small social risks to connect with others. Don't chase a perfect number; instead, interrupt the pattern of self-judgment and name what you're experiencing to redirect your behavior toward more authentic enjoyment.
459: When Dinner Prep Turns Into Drinking [Listener Q&A]
Q: How can I cook without needing wine in the kitchen, and still keep the ritual enjoyable?
The host suggests keeping the ritual but changing one variable, like using a special non-alcoholic drink, reframing the moment to focus on the full sensory experience, and anchoring attention to present-m Moment pleasures such as smell, sounds, and textures to retrain the brain away from needing alcohol for enhanced enjoyment.
457: How do I stop going to the bar in the afternoon? [Listener Q&A]
Q: Do you have any suggestions on how to stop going to the bar in the afternoon?
The key is understanding the need for transition after work and finding alternative ways to decompress that don't involve drinking.
