  • Snake oil saleswoman

Marie was somewhat helpful years ago, but lately she has been a snake oil saleswoman. She dives deep into technical analysis but in doing so abstracts away any real value. She’s using Google leaks, testimony analysis as a vail to sell her book on ranking. She gives false hope and completely fails to address the reality that generative AI is changing the way people search.

  • Love this pod

I’ve learned so much over time. And the interviews are great too. However, the episodes have become much more disjointed the past couple years. And lately, she’s the SEO who’s taking everything Google says at face value (when she used to be more of a independent thinker which was so helpful). It pains me to say this as I’m a fan. I really hope this comes back strong or that she goes to work for Google and makes them better. Either way!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

What business owners need to know about UCP: Andrea Li & Marie Haynes
Q: For a brand new to AI, what is the first thing you would recommend to get ahead?
Start with a hands-on course or guided program, publish or share learnings publicly (e.g., Substack), and begin building simple tools or templates that can be customized; hands-on practice beats theory alone.
What business owners need to know about UCP: Andrea Li & Marie Haynes
Q: What is your tool doing today for UCP readiness in terms of audits and scores?
The tool audits product feeds and on-site signals, scores readiness for UCP and AI visibility, and explains gaps with actionable steps; future versions will crawl the wider internet for brand presence and incorporate that into a composite readiness score.
What business owners need to know about UCP: Andrea Li & Marie Haynes
Q: Could you summarize what UCP is and how ChatGPT's solution compares?
UCP is an opt-in front door for product catalog crawling that respects consent and integrates with product feeds; ChatGPT solutions are similar in concept but differ in how the data access, trust signals, and integration mechanics work across platforms; both aim to enhance visibility in AI-assisted shopping experiences.
What business owners need to know about UCP: Andrea Li & Marie Haynes
Q: What would you say to the person who's watching this who understands SEO and wants to use Claude Code to build tools to improve their workflow?
I would emphasize starting with education, then hands-on building; pick a practical use case, learn via courses, and iteratively build tools—being willing to break and harden your own site while testing in a safe environment helps you learn faster and create deliverables people can actually use.
The QRG Updated - Filler content, Paraphrased, AI content and more.
Q: What do you think about the future of recipe blogs in search?
Recipe blogs may struggle if they don't adapt because users are increasingly using AI for recipes, as demonstrated by changes in Google's approach to content.
